Procedurally generated open world map?

I always thought that a procedurally generated open world map would be an amazing addition to Warframe. This is what I originally thought the Plains of Eidolon would be. The recent release of Helldiver2 show how good a procedurally generated open world map could be. This would add a completely different type of replayability almost similar to how the raid/trials were back in the day. (Making it a grounded mode could work as well). This is just food for thought, I understand that it would take a great amount of effort but considering the majority of Warframe's missions maps are procedurally generated, this wouldn't be too different. Anyone else have any thoughts on this topic? And on a side note, Helldiver Vauban skin when?

It isn't the maps that needs to be generated. It's the activities within the maps so players are engage in that matters the most. Just look up No Man Sky. So much planets to explore but nothing to do once you land on them. Unless you want the same Exterminate, mobile defense, escort missions for the rest of warframe life on those procedural generate open world maps.

You are right, some sort of randomly generated new activity would come a long way as well.

Duviri showcase DE can do various activities on a large map. Maybe with better technology we might get more dynamic activities in open world maps.

In all honesty, I want a full scale war on the large maps. A la dynasty warrior style. Or maybe even a Defense of the Ancient type with three lanes.

It's not "this or that". PCG with different systems (map generation, activities, dialogs, characters etc) are just tools. You can have static, or close to static, activities with PCG maps. Or vice versa. Both can be good.

Still I wouldn't like No man sky issue on release - so much empty maps.

IMHO some parts could be PCGed. That would be easy way. Imagine some few places on map, like 1 ruin and 1 village. Village has more plants. ON other hand ruin has more minerals/artifacts. You should know where Village/Ruin is.However those 2 places don't have to be same every time you play.

ps. non open world maps are PCGed. However this is just one way to do PCG.

They were always intentionally designed to be static, in contrast to the generated tilesets of regular missions. Most likely part design choice and part because the engine wasn't built for "minecraft" maps. There are also tons of deliberate points of interest and I can't see that design translating well without going back to the traditional tileset design again and losing track of the intended design.

Fair enough, but don’t get me wrong. I don’t think there is any issues with implementing it like a traditional tile set design, just like outdoor tile set design?

I hate the abundace of this concept in gaming. It is very often an excuse for developers to be lazy with level design and activity design. It has its merit in certain game types where all mechanics revolves around replayability, but for some reason is put everywhere.
