Warframe On Steam Machine ?

It will happen why would steam release "console" that is only able to run certain amount games but not all of them?

I'm curious about their gamepad though. looks interesting.

you have to remember though that steamos is basically just a snazzy linux, so only the games on steam that run on linux will run on it, that's not to say that valve isn't working on getting developers to port their games to linux.

Also Wine doesn't count :P

steam os is debian linux.

warframe already works in wine (and yes, it very much does count)

i.e. warframe DOES work in steam os, however you'll have to play around with it.

steam os uses a custom compositor to allow for steam graphical overlays, so it might take some work if it doesn't work right out-of-the-box in wine.

i haven't tried it yet, but by all accounts it should be workable.

this topic has come up recently and there are some links i'll provide.

previous topic thread : (https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/140276-will-warframe-be-on-steam-os/)

warframe on wine: (https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/41660-guide-warframe-on-linux-with-wine/)

link to steam os article w/ download link for distro: (http://www.geekwire.com/2013/valves-steam-os-download/)

the fact that steamos is running debian and by all accounts is otherwise regular linux with a new compositor is new information since that last topic thread. DE still hasnt' given any kind of answer on if warframe will be supported officially in steam os (or under linux at all) but the warframe on wine link is stickied on these forums, so they can't hate the idea.

all in all though, unless the compositor causes problems with wine (probably not -- but possible) you can most likely get warframe at least working. although probably not fully integrated with steam in linux.

I don't have a spare machine handy or i'd test it out and let the community know.

this is anecdotal, as i haven't tried warframe specifically on linux.

however, in my long experience of playing windows games via wine... unless there is a broken effect (some sort of cutscene overlay or specific type of graphical effect) the actual performance of the game will be on par or improved. generally speaking.

so yes, it *should* be comparable to windows performance-wise.

as for DE "supporting" linux... yes, absolutely, i think they should work with valve and get a solid release image working through steam in linux. (steam os)
