[Suggestion] Mini-Boss And Elite Enemy Encounters

Another autospawn idea: Why not paratroopers decending from the skies in outdoor levels? That would be epic.

Or Grineer boarding parties. Imagine if you walk into a room, suddenly a point on a wall, floor, or ceiling bursts in smoke and debris, revealing a boarding tube/pod that got jammed in, spewing out ready to go Grineer reinforcements.

Grineer do have that mining technology after all.

It would be a funner way to place the various types of Grineer soldiers into a level, especially during faction vs faction encounters.

Grineer Anti Tenno Squad (DSMK2)

A Grineer Anti-Tenno Squad is a squad of at least four elite Grineer marines each equipped with a single(?) piece of Orokin technology; our warframe abilities. Each member of the squad has a role to play and will support each other based on player actions and their current status. Based on their role, they are equipped with different Grineer themed weaponry.

They should act as a single mini-boss; a hive mind with multiple bodies. But each body should not be a massive damage sponge; difficulty fighting them should come from their tactics, aggressiveness, and equipment.

A Grineer AT Squad should usually appear in online or private multiplayer sessions as a way to bring a squad to Tenno to work together. They can appear at any time during a Grineer themed mission.

Basic Squad Setup:

  • 1x Supporter: Can have support based abilities, equipped with balanced weapons.
  • 1x Tank: Can have tanking based abilities, equipped with high power weapons.
  • 2x Attacker(s): Can have offensive based abilities, equipped with high DPS weapons.

Difficulty:

  • Shield and Health should be near or double the average amount of a basic unmodded warframe; they shouldn’t feel and be too much like an artificial damage sponge.
  • They have a possible chance of calling in a limited amount of basic Grineer reinforcements.

AI Goals:

  • Identify and prioritize players based on mission stats: Who has the most kills? Who dealt the most damage? Who supported the most? Who took the least amount of damage? Who used the most abilities? Etc.
  • Divide squad based on player priority list.
  • Supporter picks a squad member to support or a player to debuff.
  • If a squad member is in trouble, react accordingly.
  • Avoid being too far from each other, being too far means being in trouble, react!

Special:

  • They can carry a limited amount of inventory items to heal or protect themselves. Think of Pokemon, just when you’re about to KO your opponent… “SUPER POTION”!
  • Possible chance of their weapon being modded; look out for that freeze mod.
  • Rooms they are in have a one way lock down, Tenno can enter but they can't come out until they defeat the Grineer AT squad.

Here are my thoughts about the AT squad:

Grineer Juggernaut - The Tank.

Imagine a shield lancer on steroids and equipped with a huge mace/hammer. A heavy armored Grineer heavy who carries a giant shield, covering him from ranged attacks. Also weilds a mace that deals VERY heavy AoE damage and knockbacks.

Equipment:

2 Survival Packs: using a pack makes user quickly regenerate his shields along with health.

Tactics:

Slowly approaches Tenno, drawing attention. At close distance he charges at player and slams him with a mace. Standing on his path staggers Tenno,

Grineer Medic - The Support.

Medium Grinner armed with a powerful assault rifle (better than Grakata but worse than Gorgon). Carries a backpack that heals all the Grineer around him (like the Ancient healer). This backpack can be destroyed.

Equipment:

Medic Backpack.

1 Survival Pack

2 Cryo Grenades: grenade that slows Tenno in its radius.

Tactics: stays behind his mates and avoids direct combat. Heals nearby Grineer.

Grineer Jammer - Close Range DPS.

Medium Grineer armed with a close range toxic/radiation/sonic gun that deals damage directly to your health. Also carries a jammer backpack that jamms your radar and crews HUD.

Equipment:

Jammer Pack

1 Survival Pack

2 EMP grenades: a grenade that deals insane damage to shields and drains about half of Tennos energy.

Tactics: works well with a Juggernaut, attacks Tenno when they are busy dealing with the Jug.

Grineer Marksman - Long Range DPS

Medium Grinner armed with a high-powered burst rifle. Also has underslung rocket launcher (works simmilar to Grineer Bombard)

Equipment:

5 rockets.

1 Survival Pack.

2 Cryo Grenades.

Tactics: stays behind and attacks Tenno from afar. Uses grenades and rockets at medium range.

The idea also fits in with the revealed(?) lore that the Grineer are splitting into two camps; those who want to use Orokin technology and those who want to stick to the 'pure' Grineer way.

Somehow I think that the split happened already. That with all the warframe powers the bosses use and such.

I have one suggestion for Grineer: the "Necromancer".

Basically, Grineers are cyborgs. Usually when the brain is dead, the Grineer is dead. But the "Necromancer" (no relation to magic), can somehow take over the cybernetic systems of downed Grineers, bypassing the usual brain-spine interface to remote control the robotic parts. The end result is that downed Grineers will rise up again and continue to attack the players. But due to the imperfect bypass, the movement of the raised "undead" will be less "natural". In short, The "Necromancer" is like a server that will reanimate downed Grineer nearby.

By himself, the Necromancer should avoid direct combat, and either animates downed Grineers (before they disintegrate) or harass the players with status inflicting attacks.

Edit: just to clarify, this is more like a "heavy" as opposed to a boss.
