Warframe-18Th Most Owned/played Game On Steam Of All Time

Kind of cool factoid on arsTechnica. Warframe is the 18th most played and owned game on Steam in it's brief history. Above this are legendary and old titles like the Half-Life series, Portal, DOTA, Elder Scrolls, and so on. Considering that Warframe is in Beta and a newcomer, this is quite impressive.

Edit: Oh yeah, here's a link to the article discussing Steam metrics. Remember this is how Warframe compares to other games since the launch of Steam. For example, WF doesn't have a lot total hours played because it literally has not existed long enough to compare to titles that have been around for many many years.

How does 'own' work in the free-to-play context?

Downloaded. But owned and played. This is specified to weed out titles like Half-Life2: Lost Coast where less than 15% of players owning the title have actually played it.

Steam registers played games as 'owned' even if they're free-to-play. No big deal.

It's been really nice to see how far Warframe has come and how much it's progressed over time :)

Year is kind of long too.

BTW it Is in top 10 played games on steam.

But DOTA (which is number one) got 30 times more daily players. 600k vs 20k

Search steam stats for more detailed information.

And how long has DOTA been around? In addition to the marketing juggernaut of Valve behind it. lol, no comparison. Edited by -CM-AnonCat

"On Steam"

When i'm playing without it. Interesting, how many people doing the same out there?

And how are people supposed to get numbers on that, remember Steam has the advantage of actually registering the data so they can be used for statistics and showing up on your account.

Well, it doesn't appear on any the "most played by hours" chart.

What would be the explanation ?

Because the game has literally not existed long enough for players to wrack up the hours to compare to older titles.

So 3.4 mill people have played it, then that's the only list it's on.

Goes to show that this game has an amazing premise that draws people in... but then they stop playing shortly after they realize they need to BUY inventory slots, only have 4 revives, need mods that simply are not available in the early game, how leveling it pointless and does basically nothing unless you have those mods, how your frames and weapons are gimped unless you chance into or buy a potato.

Fair enough, the game hasn't been out since 2009. But it could still compete in the median/mean hours per 50K players. Where other post 2009 games are listed. But it doesn't.

This game has the Monster Hunter problem where the first 30 hours or so is an arduous chore. Resulting in many people leaving before it gets to the endgame. Except, MH actually gets fun and challenging after those first 30 hours. WF stays the exact same.

As for WF being in beta. Think this game is going to explode after it's released? I don't. Considering at this point there is no difference between a game in soft release beta like WF is, your every day content patch, and the actual release.
