Decoration Placement In Garden Rooms?

I can't place things. It's ridiculous.

 

Put simply, I'm pretty sure it's because the ground is slightly uneven, but that just kinda ruins everything.

 

I can't put a tree in my Leto room unless it's minimum size in one spot. I can't put a bridge in unless it's on the roof.

I can put a tree in the lantern-filled garden room, but ONLY if it's in the middle.

I can't stick trees, little grassy islands or other such things in the shallow water of some rooms. The trees, makes some sense. But islands of rock and grass? Why not?

 

Doesn't this kinda defeat the purpose? Or am I doing something wrong?

The Dojo decoration system is silly.  Most of the things I want to place, only fit on the ceiling.  

 

Being able to place more items would be nice as well.

I thought that sandy room (with the ring patterns and the stream down the middle) would be flatter, but no.

 

Can barely place anything in there.
