Those Puncture Mods, Hum...

Hello,

I happened to have the chance to participate to the puncture mod set event, giving +120% puncture damage and... uh, well I'm surprised with the price, especially for the rifle one. Sure the fact it's event raise the price. But I did some simulation on Warframe builder and in game, and it seems like in most case, you've better equiping a +90% elemental damage mod instead (because it consider all 3 basic damage types). Unless the weapon is almost entirely puncture based.

Which leave, for rifles, the boltor (prime), the Dera, the Supra and all Paris variant. Nah, not the daikyu, too much impact and slash.

If you want this mod to smash some grineers, well, seems fair. Unless you need Heavy caliber, Split chamber, Serration, Point Strike, Vital sense, Hammer shot, and two mods for Corosive damages, because corrosive is even more precious. M'kay, no Paris.

I never played Supra or Dera, but I don't see those often.

Well, is that mod only mean to Boltor prime to have a total anti grineer ?

boltor (prime)

there's your answer right there.....people are 'engaged' to their boltor prime, and they want to make it more OP any way possible, and since it's a pure DPS **** machine, it goes really well with it ;)

and it's not 'anti-grineer', people use boltor prime even in lower lvls, like if they take anything else, they'll surely get their behinds kicked, it's like that teddy bear you hold on to when you're a child and while sleeping with no light on , lose the teddy bear and you'll wet yourself :D

Wow, you are projecting ALOT with that second part. Why do you bash so hard on Boltor users?

As for OP, couldnt this be said about any of the pure damage type specific mods?

Puncture > Corrosive vs Grineer seeing as Corrosive only has the 75% extra damage on Gunners, Ballistas and melee units while Puncture has 50% bonus vs said units + 15% bonus vs the rest of them. Sure Corrosive has better proc effects but status is mostly ignored on raw dps weapons anyways.

it's becoming a habit really, but sadly, and in some cases, it's really true...it's not really hate, more like boredom for seeing the same old weapons being used, and pity for those who take the 'easy mode', but this is the internet, and everyone is free to do what they like...can't really do anything about it ;)

True enough about that last part. Boltor is considered one of the strongest guns in the game, and its also (now) one of the easiest to get. It also has a hilariously low MR requirement of 2. Why wouldnt everybody use the strongest gun?

A weapon needs 75% of its damage the physical type you want, in order for it to be the same as a 90% elemental mod.

If you factor in weakness, this number raises to 88%.

Now think of the weapons you know that are composed of 88% of a single physical damage type.

I think only Bo Prime and a few others.

Someone mentioned once that event damage mods were inferior to elemental mods unless a certain percentage of the raw damage came from the matching type.

Anyone here that happen to know this percentage?

Base Damage * X * 120% = Base Damage * 90%

Solve for X

Stay in school, kids!!!
