Mastery 2.0: Weapon Specific Challenges And Weapon Progression

Mastery is a system that, overtime, has grown in emphasis and importance. Mastery is also the only long-term system/goal in the game. However, the mastery system based on affinity doesn't make sense conceptually and encourages players to sit around on a few mission types over and over.

Mastery is supposed to be an arcane and elusive power from the "old ways". The idea being that, Tenno use weapons and Warframes, and slowly master them through use- becoming better with those weapons and gaining progression in the mysterious path towards becoming a master. Quite a few things don't make sense about this system however. For example, in real life a person's skill as a marksmen isn't measured by the amount of things they've killed. You won't get much better as a sharp shooter by running up and shooting still targets at point blank over and over. You get better with a weapon by learning how to use it in situations in which it is designed for, and by mastering the hard-to-use aspects of the weapon.

The concept is essentially this: each weapon and frame would have a set of specific challenges that players would have to accomplish (multiple times depending on the challenge). Once all of the challenges are complete, the weapon will become mastered. One challenge would be designed against the design of the weapon. For example, a sniper weapon could have challenges relating to headshots and kills from afar, but one of the challenges would relate to speed kills because snipers aren't designed for speed killing.

Not only would this system make leveling for mastery more engaging, but it would also encourage effective combat and allow more mission types to become viable for mastery leveling.

First, Mastery rank should have any meaning at all, it's not even about reaching MR8 to have access to everything, because everything that is widely considered worthwhile is unlocked once user gets to MR6 if not before.

Mastery, in its current state, exists only for bragging rights.

First, DE should completely rework create a proper tiering system and rebalance every weapon in the game, be it weapons' stats or costs, depending on its performance and mastery requirement.

Then we can think about adding fancy challenges, but such solution would mean that complete mastery wipe is required and all players would have to re-level their weapons again. All ~300 weapons.

The idea of challenges is fine, but it should work other way. Challenges should give a nice chunk of affinity to make weapons level up faster instead of passively leeching of Draco or something.

Like, as the game progresses, we could begin with 5 tiers (colloquially called S#&$-low-mid-high-god tier) stretched across 10-15MR ranks as of now (and as the game evolves, the day MR30 is easily accessible by anyone, we could even stretch these across 6 mastery ranks if the need arises, but then I think about Bad Company 2, where everything could be unlocked by player that has 20-25th rank, out of 50).

S#&$ tier being obviously the cheapest available and being completely awful in every regard (but capable enough to let the newb go through mercury, even venus if they try), while every next tier would introduce more expensive but overall better weapons.

While it seems a really cool idea, i think it would too much work for the developers... there are hundreds of weapons and dozens of warframe. It would be better to think about categories, in a way similar to Steam achievements: eg you max rank 3 bows -> you qualify for a bow mastery test -> you now are now a Bow Master -> +1 at your collection of "masteries". This could be done even for single frames and mission types. Also there could be levels of mastery with a weapon category (again: like Steam achievement).

Then your collection of "masteries" (don't even know if this word exists XD) could be visible in your profile, so that other players may know in which things you are good

If they're gonna make ideas let them take their time.
