I didn't say they don't have porn, I said they aren't porn.

Having one or two scenes of this doesn't classify it as Porn.

Yes, but they aren't porn.

You wouldn't classify a romance story with adult sections in it as porn, that'd be extremely ridiculous.

There's a difference between me saying "They are porn" and saying "They have porn in them."  There's a reason all-ages versions are released and why they're marketed as eroge.  Because they have porn in them that can be removed with no discernible impact on the story.

legitimate pornography as a reward system

Which is very clearly not "Humans don't show love through sex."

I don't know why you two have such a problem with porn or sex.  I clearly don't.  I cited Muv Luv as my favorite VN.  It has one of the most disgusting sec scenes in a VN ever and plenty of its other sex scenes are just raunchy porn.

Can we move on now?  I don't appreciate people willingly misinterpreting me.

There is a discernible impact on the story, they don't just put them in there for the reader to be like "Oh finally, time for the good stuff".

These are scenes in romance VNs where the characters show their love for one another.

There's this one VN (If my heart had wings) and the steam version removed the adult scenes, and the entire story felt stale. Extremely stale.

Then I got a patch which added in those scenes, and my respect and admiration for the VN increased tenfold.

I'm the one advocating for the adult scenes in VN, however, I dislike them being labelled as porn when they aren't.

A porn VN is one that is only about the adult scenes, a VN with just one or two adult scenes should never be classified as porn.

Oh and Muv Luv? That's an adult game/Eroge.

You are making sweeping statements about the entirety of VNs.

No, nobody likes it when people confuse sex and porn.  I'm not doing that.  I'm not calling out specific scenes or titles as being just porn with no story.

And yes, I know Muv Luv is eroge.  THAT WAS MY POINT.

You've convinced me you aren't reading my posts at all because half the time we're saying the exact same thing, while the other half of the time you're baselessly accusing me of labeling all VNs are meaningless porn, which I'm very clearly not.  As such, I'm going to ignore you from now on.

I've never even heard of such a thing.

Visual novel = Visual + Novel = Novel with a lot of image in it.

Not having an impact on the story doesn't change the fact that they use legitimate pornography as a reward system.

Why do you call it a reward system?

Anyways since some people are saying what girl they like the most in KS

Lilly and Emi are my top girls

But Shizune is the saddest scene even though it's the shortest

And hanako is the cutest scene in the game

Why do you call it a reward system?

I say reward system because of the way it's implemented.  Most VN players know to expect sex at the end of a girl's route.  For a lot of players (I couldn't say how many), seeing the sex scenes is one of their motivators for completing a route.  A lot of these sex scenes can be lifted out of the route or have their explicitness turned down and not change the story much.  Some VNs (most that I've read) also have an option in the menus to jump straight to the sex scenes - the purpose of that feature is very clear.

Things get into a grey area when the story is different if there's no physical consummation of the relationship.  Depictions of sex aren't inherently porn.  A fade-to-black approach isn't always necessary.  Sex is one of the strongest ways humans build connections and turning away from it completely is usually an immature way to handle it.  But at the same time, focusing on it to the point that the showing the reader the act of sex is the main goal rather than using sexual activity to advance the story makes it more pornographic (in my opinion, at least.)

Really it just comes down to deciding what the scene is meant to do and finding the right mix.  Porn is porn and sex is sex, but sometimes a scene can be both at the same time.
