Alt Fire?

Quick question (I hope): I've not seen a weapon that appears to offer an alternate fire mode. What's the deal? Is there more to it than just binding a key and pressing it, instead of the regular fire button?

Alt fire usually refers to an additional ability in some weapons, Quanta for example, its primary fire is a laser, Alt fire shoots explosive cubes

The only weapon that uses alt-fire to change fire modes (Auto/semi) is stradavar

Also, I had no idea Simulor had an alt fire. Need to try this when I get home.

PC default is middle mouse for alt fire

Only some weapons use alt fire in any meaningful way.  A sample:

• Sniper rifles: Change zoom level
• Buzlok:  Shoots tracking dart instead of a bolt
• Quanta: Shoots explosive cubes instead of laser
• Mutalist quanta: Shoots irradiated pods instead of bullets
• Paracyst: Shoots a grappling hook instead of bullets
• Panthera: Uses sawblade as a melee weapon instead of shooting it
• Penta: Detonates grenades on command

I've read Angstum has an alternate fire mode of a single, accurate missile. But I've not seen it work. This is what prompted my asking.

its pretty nice for stunning large groups
