Acid Shells unreliable?

Question

Recently built sobek again + 5 forma.
Obtained the Acid Shells for its potential in high level gameplay.


Yet it feels extremely random. 450 base damage + 45% max HP as corrosive 15m range should be quite heavy damage.

Lets take some sortie grineer, lvl 60 ~30k hp.   Rounded up that's around 15k corrosive damage (and +bonus against armor from corrosive). Yet often enemies next to the target are unaffected.
Is it not 15m aoe then?

Acording to wiki:

Acid shells sometimes works unreliably when your not the host, for instance in high ping situations.

I use the acid shells sobek a lot of the time and from what I've seen the AoE corrosive proc is radial but seems to get blocked by some if not all terrain: floors, stairs, pillars and crates and such.

 

Edit: found this on the wiki page for acid shells:

  • The blast seems to not be radial as advertised, but instead damages targets on either side and in front of the target killed.
