they dont auto mature now, you have to do it manually, this is to go with the addition than young kubrows and kavats can roam your ship

If you choose to not maturate the kubrow i guess it will stay a puppy but you will not be able to equip it in missions...I can t give you more infos because i dont have this update ( not yet :P but soon )

Kubrows and Kavats can stay in a pre-mature state now. They will still lose health though, just like a mature companion. You will not be able to equip non-mature companions into combat and they will not auto-mature after two days. You can now choose if you want to keep the Kubrow and/or Kavat as a pet simply roaming your ship or mature them (instantly now!) and take them with you into combat.
