How do you stop elemental mods from combining?

So, I was building my vaykor marelok. Im not going to go into specifics, its just that I didn't place my scorch and my frostbite+Deep freeze next to each other, yet they still combine into blast. Is there any way to avoid this? I want Fire and Cold, but not blast.

No. Elements combine regardless of positioning. The order is taken from top left to top right, then bottom left to bottom right.

You need at least 3 elemental mods to have 2 elements applied to you gun. The first two will combine, the third will stand alone. Adding a forth will get a new combo.

Note that should you use a ice, electric, fie and another ice mods, you will get magnetic and fire. Any addition mods of a particular element will go into the same element combo that the first instance did.

but yea, i also would love to just have toxic and fire, and not combined

Maybe if they changed the modding so that we have to link slots to create the combos, then we could do what the OP wants.
