Following synthisis Target

Is there a trick on which way to go when following a synthisis Target.  Left or right - it seems i'm following that stupid trail ( a bunch of colored diamonds that are flashing) in circles and never finding the Target to be scanned ??

take your synthesis scanner and look around through your scanner, you should see a trail leading to the synthesis target

Most of the time, if you just go for the mission objective and then head for extraction, you'll run into the target. If not... those stupid dots can be confusing sometimes. I think it might be faster to just skip trying to find it if you don't run into him during the regular mission.

Usually follow the trail. Most of the times it'll lead to the objective(best to use scanner every time you enter/exit a room) and it should be easier. For a easier method do a extermination mission that the target is in,

Also, the diamonds flow in the direction you need to go.  That's helpful should you pass it or go in another direction.
