[Lore] Prime Entries - Rhino WIP - 2/18/2017

We are all prone to writing more detailed, short story length lore for both canon warframes and fan-conepts.

However, I'd like to try my hand at something different, at least for me since someone else may have already done this.

Prime lore entries as narrated by Ballas in the Saryn, Vauban and Nekros Prime trailers.

They'll lack the stunning visual elements, but will try to follow the succinct, poetic structure of Ballas' words.

This is both showcase and request topic. I hope to fill requests for canon and fan-concepts (warframes only).

When making a request, please do so via PM. When you do: 

• Leave as much information as possible about the fan-concept warframe. 
• Ensure the fan 'frame has a decently fleshed out concept topic I can view at my disposal
• I will not, cannot, create a Prime Lore entry from little to nothing: just a basic idea or concept for a 'frame will probably be insufficient
• Be patient with me, and trust me as a writer.
• Know that I will also work with you, explaining word choices.
• Please don't bring me a pre-made entry/script and request that I simply polish it.
• Know that if you're unhappy with it, we can review it and I'll revise.
   

Once you accept the entry, it is yours to do with as you wish, and use it in your concept topic. A simple credit somewhere is fine.

I will not be accepting payment (actual monetary payment) for this, but gifts or platinum are fine if you want to send them. 

I will not be creating entries for canon warframes that I've yet to use. (This is because I haven't played them and in some cases am avoiding lore that's been discussed.)

Conceived by me, germinated for deadly purpose.

I intend to reclaim it now, from the spores, and the ruin.

It came to me, like a proverb: fight poison with poison.

Cure this sick horde with the greatest of plagues.

I will call her Saryn.

Lust was my sin. But greed is the blight that weakens our steel.

These industrialists have gorged on the harvest of our long war.

Their mind-drones, their mechanizations toil in foundries remote. 

For what purpose?

We must set watch upon them.

Baiting our snares with the worms of profit.

Those kneeling at the altar of commerce will be returned to the void.

Fear is a weed, snaking in the dark. And vines within the mind, corrupting it.

It germinates within tribes, dividing them.

Your grace is we who are beyond death have forgotten the simple power of fear.

Let us now remember.

They conspire against us in fealty to it.

Sedition, like a shadow, lurks behind their brilliant façade.

How long before citizens and clones yearn for it?

He will grant the dishonorable discretion in death.

After the storm, blood and fires of retribution wash away.

For those treacherously inclined, look past the smoke for what remains:

“Die,” they demand.

You will answer with survival. 

Freeze this prey in its tracks,

Turn their stolen knowledge to bones and sinew.

Loose your carnage upon their world,

And paint the heavens in their blood.

Laugh as she multiplies her force.

Refracts wavelengths of our vengeance across the cosmos.

Singularity.

Long predicted, now realized.

Vanquishing this threat has justified the darkest of means.

Yet within darkness, we stoked a flame: vessels of sacred power.

Our soldiers lack fortitude: to face Tau’s demons, to follow ours into battle.

I will give them a leader in their image.

Bound by zeal, they will send this arriviste race a message: this system belongs to the empire.

When our forces march back across the Rail, they will chant, even as he haunts them: Ushtar.

Revolution: Fantasy of replicated laborers, 

Of merchants clinging to familial vestiges. 

These kubrow hatchlings pine for freedom with no regard for social order. 

We needn’t exterminate these valuable cogs for their dreams. 

Nor must we spoil them. 

Like an antiquated patriarch, I will not spare the rod. 

As agent provocateur, she will entice them to organize, 

And shatter their spines, their will. 

As sleuth, she will make them distrust their shadows. 


When day is done, and drudges bed down in squalor, 

They will glimpse a hint of gold, movement in the dark,

An awesome idea; I've been thinking awhile now of doing something similar for Theraph.

I do really like your Ushtar 'entry'. The ending has a certain power to it that matches the rest. The Ash one I'm more indifferent to.

Good work so far, either way, I look forward to more, if you plan on or get enough requests for more.

Hey, thanks a lot. 

Theraph, Praetora, Typhus and Flora were on my to-do list for fan concepts for starters, but Rehtael already created a Prime Lore entry some time ago. Will be interested to see how your entry turns out, and will hold off from writing one preemptively.

I think the Ushtar entry follows the structure a little closer, but I like the Ash entry more. Mostly because I think it tells the more interesting, less well-known story. Don't get me wrong, I like the Usthar entry and it'll help me build more stories on it.

But the Ash one, I think, plays into:

• Ballas' paranoia
• The truth: all empires eventually crumble from the inside
• The coming Grineer uprising
• Ash's theme as assassin, and a sort of dread-enforcer especially among the high ranking Orokin. (Tried to capture this in the last line, but I'm sure it could've been stronger.)

No requests yet, but I do plan on more. Thanks again.

I'll take my share of the credit for writing each piece, but DE's poetic style is still what I'm imitating. They came up with a great standard.

Mirage is actually next for release, and she'll be somewhat of a challenge. I'm drafting ideas for Mirage and Frost at the same time. Frost was requested.

I have some ideas for fan concept warframes, but those are kind of on hold.

No release dates for any of them, but I will update this thread as soon as I'm satisfied with the final entry. Expect Mirage, then Frost. Or both.

Thanks. I haven't forgotten about this thread. I just hit a rough patch (creatively) with WF concepts.

I have also been focused on tackling writing projects unrelated to WF in my free time.

I just need to juggle better, really. But I will indeed complete more entries. I probably won't write one for Valkyr (DE has said one is on the way).

Despite knowing that (that DE is working on one), I started working on a Valkyr entry on the 27th of December. It, along with Mirage and Frost's entry, is posted in the OP.

Thank you. I enjoyed writing all of the new entries, but Frost's was the easiest, seemed the most true to "life", and his purpose in the context of the game.

I think the entry will be as good as some of the more favored entries.

For a peek at my rough first draft (and the process for all entries), click the spoiler to read 🦏's lore as it stands in my notebook of hastily jotted down thoughts. I tend to return to the notebook and add more thoughts as I stew on the piece.

As you will see, there is one joke note in there, but the others are all legit. They help me visualize Rhino's purpose, journey, remember his powerset, and theme. I will leave some of the phrases and words on the cutting room floor, refine others, and come up with new ones not seen below, but this is how I start each piece.

 

Stoic.

Steadfast.

Stand the test of time.

Time stands still.

Tough.

Knight.

Charge.

Stomp.

Roar.

Iron skin.

Furnace / purified.

I cast fist!

Support.

Tank.

Endure.

Hold the line.

When all else fail.

Pick up others when they fall.

Savage, lowly beast.

Tamed beast.

When the world is rubble, dust, and littered with the bones of the fallen / those who remain.

Reach out a hand, and tell them to stand, rise.
