0 MagPrime
It used to stand for Tower/Tier and referred to the Void, before the Relic system was implemented. i.e., T1 Exterminate meant you were dealing with enemies that were around level 20 (IIRC) and the higher the Tower/Tier, the higher level the enemies, basically. 0 xiaodenden
T1, T2, T3, and T4 used to mean the difficulty level of Void missions back when keys were used to access different mission types in the Void. The keys were labelled T1 (Tower 1) mission type, T2 (Tower 2) mission type, etc. If you see T1, T2, etc. in the Warframe wiki, the T stands for Tier. Different tier gives different types of rewards so it's good to know what difficulty level the mission you're playing if you're looking for certain rewards. For example, if you're looking for Lith relics, doing easy missions (or Tier 1) have a good chance to giving you Meso relics as reward. On the other hand, if you're looking for Axi relics, you'll need to do high tier/high level missions.
0 Xzorn
As said T1.2.3 was most popular as Tower 1,2,3, which is no longer used. Tier is officially referring to a level bracket within the game for use in separating rewards. For instance Spy missions are divided into 3 Tiers. T1 is lvl 1-15, T2 is lvl 16-25 and T3 is lvl 26+. I believe all mission types use the same bracket. Edited October 17, 2016 by Xzorn
