Channeling is garbage except for life strike and dispatch overdrive.

On topic:

Base channeling multiplies damage by 1.5x, meaning a 50% damage increment. 120% of 50% is 60%. 60% + 50% = 110% channeling damage.

100% of base damage + 110% of channeling damage = 2.1x damage.

Sorry, I suck explaining maths.

im not talking about how channel dmg applies to dmg..

Im talking about adding a mod that is suppose to increases channel dmg.. which doesnt seem to calculate right

My Sancti Magistar has a channel dmg of 1.5..

Max Killing Blow adds 120% channeling dmg..

I put on Killing Blow mod, I have a channel dmg of 2.1..

From my calculations.. Killing Blow should give 3.3..

1.5 x 1.2 + 1.5= 3.3

Whats the deal?

I understand how it works.. but the way its displayed seems wrong.. instead of being displayed as 1.5 multiply (which i thought was a addition to melee dmg) it should be displayed as just .5?

I mean a "critical damage" multiplier of 1.0x is melee damage stacked right? (Meaning if melee dmg 1000 a "critical hit" would be 2000..)

Again tho.. The math is wrong.. 1.5 x 1.2 + 1.5= 3.3

Nope, that'd be a 0 damage increase on crit, and why most weapons have 1.5 or 2.0 as their multiplier.

Like, that's the key word - multiplier.
Multiplying something by 1 doesn't increase anything, multiplying by 2 doesn't mean you get triple damage :P

@p3z1 explained it pretty well, I thought.

If it displays as x0.5, then it means you reduce your damage by 50%, because...

If it said percent, then rant by all means.

@NinjaZeku @p3z1

Ok.. thank you for the "multiplier" clarification.. I got confused using percentages of mods and mixed it with the multiplier thinking that was how the damage worked..

Being that Channeling dmg is in 50% increments but displayed as 1.5 is misleading to me.. i mean 120% in addition of 1.5 is 3.3

I guess this is where English and Math collide?

If I cloned a sheep.. would it be considered multiplied by 1?

Nope, 1 x 1 = 1 :P

To get 2 sheep out of that 1 sheep, you need to multiply that 1 by 2.

You're still thinking percentages - if you increase that 1 sheep by 100%, you get 2 sheep.

Let's try this.

Multiplier, when below 1x or x1, reduce your damage output.
Percentages, even at 1%, is a buff.

And yes, there are more misleading percentages compared to killing blow, like vitality. Check them out on your own hazard.
