Sirfol
Hi tenno With many games in the market many of them use engines like Unity or Unreal and less and less use engine produced in company. Warframe have it's own Engine called Evolution, i was curious what other types of games his engine could create particularly because it's sole property of DE (which is awesome). This engine with the development DE made on it is proving to be really strong, especially now it can support "landscapes" and it opens new possibilities regarding open worlds action RPG, the graphic is pretty good and they are even developing a custom particle effect (like physicX, but it's called Flow IIRC). It's possible in the future DE could outsource their engine to a developer that want to produce games? (in your opinion) or it's still not flexible enough to put in the market like other ones? just a curiosity of a gamer. forsenK
To be fair, without bashing the developers, the game's engine is really outdated and pretty unstable at times, and I say that even though I really adore the game.
rune_me
This engine doesn't do anything that something like UE4 doesn't do much, much better. No one will ever claim that Warframe runs smoothly. And UE4 and Unity are so dirt cheap (hell, free, even, until you start making a lot of money from your videogames) that a small company like DE could never compete.
SurrealEdge
There are a ton of hiccups with the Evolution engine, it does look good and on par with what you can get with other games on other engines. It's stable, and in house. The caveat is that it hasn't seen much improvement over the years and remains largely the same while the game(s) built with the engine are showing some age. You should try Monogame.... That's a bad engine.

They did make their other game Amazing Eternals with this engine. The engine has a very specific use. They have the option of outsourcing it, but supporting anyone who would use it might cost more for it to be worth it. Since it is limited, I don't think it would be worth using over the other options.
Hannah-Eliz
A lot of Studios make their own engines that use the base of another. They customise it to their own needs and so they don't really need to "outsource" it.
phoenix1992
The evolution engine may be many things, but.... It is also pretty damn good. Does one consider how abusive Warframe is?
SnuggleBuckets
Digital Extremes have optimized the Evolution engine greatly, making it very versatile for countless different systems, whereas something like Unity seems to always run poorly on my computer, and almost always a good sign that a game was made with the Unity engine is a large RAM requirement. A lot of engines have been built upon and warped over the years without any official new iteration on them, just look at the history of engines like the id Tech Engine, the Source Engine or the Unreal Engine, and how different developers put their own spin on them and gave them new life, so I'd say there's plenty of room for the Evolution engine to evolve still.
