Nyargoth - The Lovecraftian Body Horror (Everything is a suitable Host)

Inspire by a combination of Nyarhotep, Shoggoths, the Thing, dead space, and a movie called "The Void",  Nyargoth is a Corpus Experiment gone rather successfully. Taken from the infesteds' ability to successfully take over and consume literally anything, metal or machine, its biological qualities where successfully quantized and synthesized with a blend of infested material, grineer cloning resources, corpus flesh and technology, and the metals from a fallen warframe that was captured in battle.

Lore Wise, Nyargoth gained a consciousness of its own thanks to a visit from "The Man In The Wall", who saw the suits potential and awoke all of the conciousness's of the entities that went into the materials that composed the suit, creating a Legion like personality at first that slowly subsided into a singular mind, Nyargoth, the Awoken or Nyargoth the Formless Mind. It struggled with sentience and defected from the Corpus. Seeking a true form of its own, it settled on travelling the system, finding life forms to fight and mimic until it could know its' self the way it knew its enemies. Eventually the player, in the last mission of the sequence, fights the suit, which surrenders to the player after mimicking and using the player as a host, accepting its role as an ironic host but still maintaining a consciousness of its own outside of the player, with the suit occasionally making animations referencing that it thinks on its own and is simply allowing the player to use it as a host, the way it uses others, even using idle animations when the player transfers out of the suit, instead of the regular, motioness A-pose.

This allows a new enemy type to make appearances as well, as with the Index, it's been shown that the Corpus already had doppelganger Technology but now, with the success of the Nyargoth, the corpus can deploy these in combat in various missions, taking the form of whatever they see fit for whatever purposes, even assuming host control of the players temporarily to deceive enemies, forcing the player to transfer out of the suit to fight the very frame the player was just using. They could be mid level enemies, doppleganging the players or other faction enemies, or high level bosses that also gain some of the players abilities or stealing their suit.

the quest chain could essentially be the player stalking new intel on Corpus tech and catching wind of a dangerous new project. They hunt down some boss figure that seems to be heading the Ops but upon killing them, they morph into something else, a decoy. this continues until the player ends up ambushed in a setup thought to be of friendlies in a relay that end up being doppelgangers until Ordis manages to synthesize a portion of the suit, tracing the materials back to the real boss who then leaves you with information as to where Nyargoth  had left after defecting, where the player goes to find it to put an end to the technology, only to befriend it.

The name itself is a Portmanteau for two Lovecraftian beings that are the essence of Nyargoth.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyarlathotep
Nyarlathotep differs from the other beings in a number of ways. Most of them are exiled to stars, like Yog-Sothoth and Hastur, or sleeping and dreaming like Cthulhu; Nyarlathotep, however, is active and frequently walks the Earth in the guise of a human being, usually a tall, slim, joyous man. He has "a thousand" other forms, most of these reputed to be maddeningly horrific. Most of the Outer Gods have their own cults serving them; Nyarlathotep seems to serve these cults and take care of the deities' affairs in their absence. Most of the gods use strange alien languages, but Nyarlathotep uses human languages and can be mistaken for a human being. The other Outer Gods and Great Old Ones are often described as mindless or unfathomable rather than truly malevolent, but Nyarlathotep delights in cruelty, is deceptive and manipulative, and even cultivates followers and uses propaganda to achieve his goals

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoggoth

It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter.
— H. P. Lovecraft, At the Mountains of Madness
At the Mountains of Madness includes a detailed account of the circumstances of the shoggoths' creation by the extraterrestrial Elder Things. Shoggoths were initially used to build the cities of their masters. Though able to "understand" the Elder Things' language, shoggoths had no real consciousness and were controlled through hypnotic suggestion. Over millions of years of existence, some shoggoths mutated, developed independent minds, and rebelled. The Elder Things succeeded in quelling the insurrection, but exterminating the shoggoths was not an option as the Elder Things were dependent on them for labor. Shoggoths also developed the ability to survive on land, while the Elder Things retreated to the oceans. Shoggoths that remained alive in the abandoned Elder Thing city in Antarctica would later imitate their masters' art and voices, endlessly repeating "Tekeli-li",[2] a cry that their old masters used.

----
Ability 1)  Call of the Abyss - Nyargoth pierces the mind of the three closest enemies, showing them visions of the realities hidden within the void, causing random effects. Some enemies flee in terror, some sit down and wait for death, some attack everything around them, disbelieving the lies of their current reality, and others seek to end their lives, either by jumping out of the level in permissible areas or with new suicide animations and self-destruction for capable enemies. Any time an enemy dies while under the effect of this ability, it spreads to the closest 2 enemies within range and reiterates, this time applying a new debuff called Illusions of Flesh that reduces 10% of the enemies armor and total health (simulating self-mutilation).

----
Ability 2) Grey Goo - Nyargoth dematerializes some of its components into a strangely horrifying rifle that grows straight out of its arms and fires blobs of Nyargoth's own body which stick to enemies and slowly coat them, breaking down their genetic and metallic materials for consumption. The more Nyargoth fires, the more it shrinks in size and the smaller its TOTAL HEALTH shrinks. If a player expends all of itself doing this but does not coat an enemy, they will regain their size over a set amount of time or by collecting health orbs as the fired blobs begin to drift together and coalesce. Grineer enemies absorbed this way return a percentage of health and armor to Nyargoth. Corpus - Shields and Health. Infested - Health and a chance to ignore Status effects. Depending on the size of the enemy, The material returned to Nyargoth will increase its' TOTAL HEALTH POOL and also cause it to grow in size, up to 2 times larger than normal (not too large so as to cause a traversal problem) which will synergize with its 3rd and 4rth ability, but also make it a bigger and more imposing target. Any damage taken while enlarged will shrink Nyargothback down to its original size over time as well as losing a percentage of size every second to ensure the player is able to shrink back if size is creating an issue.

This ability can be used on consoles, panic buttons, and things that need to be hacked or activated, permanently hacking and disabling the device from further use by frying its components and self destructing, causing a permanent percentage loss of health that can only be recovered by consuming an enemy or collecting health orbs. (Free hacks and no more pesky panic buttons also  long range button pushing!)

----
Ability 3) Cellular Division - Nyargoth deconstructs itself, feigning death and disengaging enemies from combat, falling to the floor in 6 pieces, arms, legs, torso, and head. Each piece (besides the torso, which will be the player) then morphs into tiny versions of the last 5 enemies Nyargoth encountered. the torso shapes itself into a proportionally smaller version of Nyargoth, who gains a small percentage of evasiveness, much like Titania, mixed with the confusion of Mirages hall of mirrors. The Nyargoth suit-pieces naturally stay very close and are capable of attacking independently. Any damage any of them take are considered damage on the player. Each pieces health pools are exactly 1/6th of Nyargoths current total health and shields value. When a piece dies and falls, it melds with the nearest living piece, which then grows in size and gains a small percentage of health, but not a full 1/6th, until finally Nyargoth regains full size, but at low health. If the torso/player dies in this mode, it blends to the nearest piece which loses its current form and becomes a slightly larger Nyargoth with blended health values, this repeats until the body is whole again.

This ability can be cancelled by holding down the same ability key or by using any other ability that require Nyargoth to shapeshift.

----

Ability 4) Hemiepiphyte - Nyargoth latches onto an enemy or ally and completely covers them. If Nyargoth does this to an enemy, it gains full control of the enemy, Nyargoth uses the enemies equipped weapons, abilities, and auras and receives benefits from the players currently installed mods if it is the correct weapon type, using the enemy like a puppet. Any enemies that saw this will attack Nyargoth, who will take damage, but at a reduced percentage, most of the damage will be mitigated to its host instead. Any enemies unaware of this happening will assume Nyargoth is an ally unless Nyargoth attacks them. Enemies with higher EHP values will struggle more, increasing the time it takes Nyargoth to assume control, and reducing the amount of time Nyargoth can control them. If Nyargoth can successfully puppeteer the host long enough, they will die. If they die while being puppeteered, Nyargoth can use their body indefinitely or until it takes too much damage which will cause the host to no longer mitigate the damage that Nyargoth receives and reduces damage as well as potentially failing any perception checks the enemy make on Nyargoth.

Depending on Nyargoths size, being larger slows the stamina drain of this ability and makes enemies struggle less, being smaller causes the opposite, making this ability more difficult to maintain.

If this is done on an Ally, Nyargoth creates a shell around the host player in the shape of a random enemy from the correct faction, losing all movement abilities. It does not control the Host player or affect them in any way (apart from some buffs), but disguises them as an enemy. Nyargoth can attack at short range this way, creating spikes that shoot out of its body at nearby enemies, Ala the Cop from Terminator and Abathur from Heroes of the Storm. It also coats the host allies weapon, enhancing their melee attacks with a boost to both speed, base damage, and slash. Any damage taken is heavily mitigated to Nyargoth instead of the host Ally making it an effective suit for aiding weaker, or new players to the game without interfering with them. The energy drain on Nyargoth increases the more mobile the host ally becomes, jumping, bullet time, and parkour will severely spike Nyargoths energy drain. While enveloping an Ally, Nyargoth is unable to gain energy, preventing any OP spamming or unwanted Trolling. Upon seperating from the host, be it Ally or enemy, a CD called Host Rejection is placed on the recently affected subject for set period of time, making them temporarily unable to be used as a host again until it goes away.

All the host has to do to remove an unwanted Nyargoth is just jump around and spam movement abilities a bit or "Struggle".

This could be used on an ally sentinel to much the same effect, greatly buffing the sentinel and allowing control of its weapon, but not movement, granting it extra spotting and damage capabilities for added shenanigans.

Nyargoths Sentinel will also gain a passive, allowing it to coat the Ally Hosts Sentinel the same way, allowing both sentinels to use both sets of mods, prioritizing any mods that are higher ranked and discarding any duplicates but preferring the Host sentinels weapon.

Nyargoth could potentially use this on its own Kavat or Kubrow to gain control of it and access its abilities, using it to effectively treasure hunt or evade enemies.

---
Passive Ability - Self-Correcting Morphic Alloys. The materials used to allow Nyargoth to shift so easily can endure heavy enemy fire, simply being pushed out of the way by bullets, instead of being torn and ripped - Nyargoth has a slight damage mitigation (that is increased and directed to a host, when attached to one) and upon taking damage, heals to a small percentage of health vs damage done over time. I.E If Nyargoth takes 100 points of damage, after 5 seconds of not taking damage, it will begin to slowly regain 10 points of health over X amount of seconds. Any damage taken will cancel this effect and reset the process.

Passive Ability 2 - The Hunger - Nyargoth absorbs the genetic material in Health Orbs, using them to grow in size up to its cap, accumulating mass to be used for its 2nd, 3rd, and 4rth abilities.

---
Weapon Set

Meta-Stasis Nanite Ampules (secondary throwing Grenades) - Small rounded glass canisters containing a bio-nanite, similar to Nyargoths makeup that coats enemies and the ground or impacted areas with a puddle of magnetic nanites that slow down enemies, apply a DoT and a magnetic status to them, and begin to coat them while slowly absorbing their armor and shield values. If the enemies spend enough time in a puddle or are coated enough, they corrode into more nanite puddles on the ground. Upon doing this they either increase the original puddles size if still standing in or near it, or create new, separate but smaller puddles. If they are struck with melee after being coated enough, they explode and coat nearby enemies in nanites as well. Any players or allies that are coated this way or touch a puddle will gain the armor and shield values that the puddles or explosions leeched from the enemies within them.
Any status effects on any enemy affected by the nanites is also given to any other enemies also touching any connected puddles or explosion clouds. Any status effects on players are removed upon contact and transferred to any enemies or is stored within the puddle until the next enemy contacts it.

Morphos - Also made from some of the materials that were used to construct Nyargoth, the Morphic Putty blade is a singular sword that can grow and morph between weapon types upon using an alternate fire mode. It comes with its own special stance mod, allowing combos to turn it into different weapon types mid combo, perhaps starting off in standard sword mode but then switching to axes, dual swords, and then a whip finisher that pulls enemies in only to be smashed by it in hammer form, before reverting back to its starting state.

Stats/Aesthetics

  • Superior Health values (Rivaling Inaros almost).
  • Low Armor values (due to passive damage mitigation and regenerative qualities).
  • Low Energy values.
  • Poor Shield and Mobility values.

Particularly weak to heat elements.

Nyar survives by either using hosts for natural mitigation and regeneration, by constantly absorbing enemies, or by using Cellular Division to avoid fire all together.

Aesthetics would be Lovecraftian and a little Amalgamation/Aberration of all the factions in a slightly droopy mess that seems to fluctuate and pulse slightly. Horrifyingly familiar yet strange.
Animations would be a mix between being languid and fluid, while occasionally being jerky and twitchy.
Material requirements to craft the suit would be heavy on morphics, plastids, fieldron, and nanospores, potentially even requiring a few forma (hue Morphics + Forma = Morphing Form).

Thanks for bumping this thread to shamelessly promote your own idea, which is literally NOTHING like this one, except in name only, so I'll go ahead and change that to stop any confusion.

i wasnt trying to promote mine, but a added positive affect imo. i was more trying to quickly bounce ideas with you since i was in a rush and i wanted to give this post the attention it deserved while putting a reminder for myself to properly respond, bc when i read this i was in a hurry with home life. i really like the ideas you have for your frame and the name especially struck me. i was hoping i could inspire you with my own idea which was in the same ballparkish with your idea.

I like the idea of a lovecraftian frame but only the first has anything to do with lovecraft. The others are more for a "formless" frame. Could have a shifting Rorschach armor. Maybe change the one to stick enemies to a wall. Single target ANF then multiple with augments?

Thats not entirely true, though I wasnt drawing entirely upon Lovecraft for the inspiration, so much of Lovecraft and things directly inspired by him, like The Thing, and The Void and Body Horrors in particular.

"This is all well-documented, but Carpenter’s masterpiece isn’t merely a great example of monster horror, it’s a perfect example of the Lovecraftian “cosmic horror,” a notoriously difficult subgenre to represent onscreen."

  • 2 weeks later...

Quite Tempting idea.

I think you should expand it more to Lovecraftian Lore in therm of abilities.

Throw some Kuakas in the Wall, The Dunwich Relay Horror, Eximus Colors from Outher Space or Dagon Prime.

It needs more body horror and beyond natural powers.

All in All that would be a sick Frame, with proper animations a pure horror.
