Question

*Possible spoilers, read at one's own discretion*

Introduction:

With the addition of Eidolons in Warframe on the Plains of Eidolon, one may have many questions regarding where to begin. There are certain prerequisites that must be met before properly facing any Eidolon of which there are now 3. First, you must have completed the “Second Dream” quest which will give you access to your operator. Second, you must complete the "War Within" quest to gain "full" access to your operator. Third, you must complete “Saya’s Vigil” quest given to you by Konzu in Cetus on Earth. After doing so, you can speak with Quill Onkko who will grant you the Operator’s Mote Amp, a basic amp that shoots like a laser with limited range and enable you to gain standing with the Quills. To increase your standing and level with the Quills, you will need to exchange sentient cores with Onkko. These cores are dropped by sentient enemies like the Conculysts & Battalysts on Lua or Vomvalysts & Eidolons on the Plains of Eidolon during the night. Hovering over the “Plains of Eidolon” node on Earth is a quick way to tell if it is day or night.

Fighting Conculysts & Battalysts:

When facing these enemies, it is recommended to use high damage weapons with different status effects like impact, slash, puncture, heat, cold, toxin, electric, corrosive, radiation, viral and gas. You’ll want to have different status effects on your primary than the ones on your secondary because they will adapt to the damage type you are dealing, which increases their defenses and almost forces you to switch to a different damage type(from corrosive to radiation for example). A long range or thrown melee weapon can also be equipped with a different status effect as your primary and secondary but melee is not really recommended when fighting them. Another weapon that is effective is your Operator’s Amp, by using void mode to avoid taking damage you can reposition and aim to shoot your Amp from a safe spot. After you destroy them they will drop sentient cores, one kill is one core.

Fighting Vomvalysts:

Vomvalysts can be shot with a Primary or Secondary Warframe weapon or your Operator’s Amp which will transform them into a ghostly energy, similar to your Operator’s void mode. In this form you must shoot them with your Operator’s Amp in order to destroy and claim a dropped sentient core.

Gaining Quills’ Standing:

Trading in dropped sentient cores for standing with Quill Onkko will enable you to level up within the Quills, giving you access to the offerings available depending on which level you are currently at. With each level up you get one free offering corresponding with the level you have gained.

Building an Amp:

An Amp consists of 3 parts: a Prism, a Scaffold and a Brace. You must construct each piece separately in your foundry using resources found on the Plains of Eidolon. With all 3 parts complete, you can then speak with Quill Onkko to build an Amp with any combination of Prism, Scaffold and Brace. *Quick Tip: One can level up an amp quickly by choosing “Spy” missions above level 25-30 and hacking the data console with your Operator undetected.

Recommended Path and Amp Build:

While it is possible to face the first of the 3 eidolons with your Mote Amp, you will have a much more enjoyable experience with a fully assembled Amp. Knowing we get a freebie with each level up of Quills’ Standing, we can essentially get 2 amp piece blueprints for a recommended build. The last piece would have to be purchased with the same Standing one uses to level up. *Again this is a recommendation, however, you are free to choose whichever you’d like on your path.*

With the first level of Quills’ Standing you can acquire the Pencha Scaffold. This Scaffold is a secondary fire mode for your amp used by pressing in R3(right stick) which charges a shot and shoots a wide angle plasma projectile similar to the Arca Plasmor about 2 seconds later. The shot can be charged while your Operator is in void mode giving you safety from damage while you aim and shoot. Since this Scaffold’s projectile punches through and hits multiple times, this is what you’ll be using against the Teralyst for decent damage to its shields

With the second level of Quills’ Standing you can either acquire the Shwaak Prism or the Juutni Brace. The Shwaak Prism is a primary fire mode to your amp which fires a wide angle plasma projectile similar to the Arca Plasmor in quick succession. The wide spread of the projectile and the fast fire rate makes this an ideal weapon against Vomvalysts and can kill them in 2 shots. This Prism’s projectile also punches through so you can hit more than one Vomvalyst at a time with a single shot if lined up properly.

The Juutni Brace is a passive part of your Amp which allows your ammo/energy to charge up quicker, essentially cutting your charge up time in half (from 2 seconds to 1). With this brace you can essentially shoot your secondary fire mode (Pencha Scaffold) infinitely and have much less downtime after depleting your ammo with the primary fire mode (Shwaak Prism).

Fighting a Teralyst:

The first of the 3 Eidolons is the Teralyst which can only be found at night on the Plains of Eidolon and is easily distinguishable by its size and appearance. The Teralyst has a shield that negates all damage except that from your Operator’s Amp. You can shoot the Teralyst anywhere with your amp to damage its shield. After taking down its shield you can then damage one of its Synovias or joints at the KNEES or SHOULDERS with a Primary or Secondary Warframe Weapon, melee wepons will not work in damaging these. *Quick Tip: All Eidolons are weak to RADIATION damage so you’ll want to mod your weapons to include this damage type and maximize damage output.

Killing VS Capturing:

There are 2 options when fighting any Eidolon, you can either kill it by repeating the proccess of taking down its shield and destroying each Synovia then shooting the eidolon itself until it dies; or you can use Eidolon Lures found scattered on the Plains where Grineer set up camp and appear for a capture. To employ their help, shoot them until they are slightly slumped over then hack them to make them follow. These Lures must be charged and kept safe before attempting to capture an Eidolon.

Charging Lures:

A Lure requires 3 Vomvalyst ghosts to get fully charged. After hacking a Lure and making it follow you, find Vomvalysts to shoot until transformed into energy ghost mode then the Lure will suck the ghost Vomvalyst when near enough. To save time you can often find Vomvalysts near the Teralyst.

Capturing the Teralyst:

The same process of killing a Teralyst must be followed when capturing a Teralyst: Take down shields, destroy Synovia. After destroying a Synovia, a fully charged lure can then trap a Teralyst in place not allowing the Teralyst to run away and recharge its shield. The Lure has to be close enough so that you see a line connecting to the Synovia which was destroyed. You will need 2 fully charged Lures to be linked to the Teralyst and survive to the very end of the fight in order to successfully capture the Teralyst. If a Lure is destroyed, find another and charge it up before the killing blow.

Rewards for Killing VS Capturing a Teralyst:

For killing a Teralyst you get an Eidolon Shard, Sentient Cores and an Arcane. For Capturing a Teralyst you get a Brilliant Eidolon Shard in addition the rewards granted for a kill. There is also a chance of getting an eidolon articula.

That concludes my starter guide. I have opted to not recommend frames or weapons so as to not discourage new hunters. Although you may see preferred set ups, it's always good to get out there for experience to see what works for you.

Hope some find this informative and boosts your confidence to get out there and earn some arcanes and brilliant eidolon shards for focus.

Happy hunting, Tenno.

It is much quicker to level your AMP using either Equinox or Ivara to "sleep" unalerted enemies on an exterminate mission and then kill them with your AMP.  The operator has its own stealth affinity multiplier.  Even an unguilded mote AMP can kill enemies on Saturn.

The arcane reward pool is different for killing vs capturing.  Each variant has three arcanes each that only drop when captured and it is generally the three best arcanes they drop (although opinions on best will vary).

Not to throw shade on your own :)

This one has pictures.

Nice, pictures are always good for the visual learners.

I wrote this guide with general ways to go about things without frame or weapon recommendations so people don't get discouraged if they don't have certain frames. Though, I thank you for that input.

Yes, capturing does seem to yield better arcanes but one gets an arcane either way. I left several points in a very basic explanation so as to let people get a general idea and maybe push them to research further.

There is no "seem" about it, killing and capturing have different drop tables and I think you need to be clear about that.  The main problem I have with how you have that presented is it makes it sound acceptable to kill the eidolon since "you get an arcane either way".  It is never acceptable to kill them, that is a failure.  Only a capture should be viewed as a successful eidolon hunt.

Ok, this is just to help people get started and on their way. Thanks for your input.
