Cross-play,migration, continued support ?

will we ever get cross-play between PS4 and PC for warframe so we can play our account on PC and carry over progress ?

just a thought on clans between console/pc if cross-play was an option that we could carry over our clan.

I really don't wanna start a PC account from scratch, it was a lot of work and time spent to get to MR25 and running a clan since beginning of 2014

the way cross-play could work is lock certain things to PC only that won't carry over until the current updates are ready for console, so a new warframe or weapon i make on PC update won't be usable on console until that new update is ready to go on console.

I'm also wondering if DE would stop supporting current consoles at some point when the next gen consoles come out and or let us migrate accounts to them.

Not going to happen. Pretty much confirmed the other day with a interview from SkillUp and the devs

so the cross play isn't going to happen, the account migration to next gen consoles not going to happen or continued support not going to happen ?

cross play is not going to happen.

migration to Switch will happen for a couple months.

You are so many years away from the potential of the "Next-Gen" consoles to even have this as a discussion. Pro versions of the current consoles don't count. It would be entirely up to Sony/MS/Nintendo to allow migration from a PS4 to say a PS5 account at that point anyway.

next gen will likely happen as with destny 1 with xbox 360 the server was the same just the access point was new.  its more if DE decides if they want to move it to next gen consoles or not which honestly done see them not doing it

you can't transfer your ps4 account to pc for pretty much all eternity, or until ps stops being a d

I like to look ahead some to the future of things and a discussion of this doesn't hurt honestly 🙂

there was PS5 leaks last week or two ago mentioning everything from it coming out late this year to next year sometime up to 2020-2021 so who really knows.

I just like to know that there would be a good chance of migration to new console so its not totally stuck on current gen systems and we'd have to start from scratch on the new ones.

its not as far off as might think some developers have kits now that will amke games they can work on having some games ready when next-gen launches.  A Rockstary employee confirmed this like 4 months ago that rockstart have kits to make ps5 and the next gen xbox games  last eta on next gen i heard was 2020 which isnt that far away

The latest SPECULATION is a march 2021 release date which puts it more than 3 yrs away. In terms of technology that is quite far out. Don't care anything about Rockstar and supposed development kits. Sony has not made any solid confirmations so everything is up in the air. Again 3 yrs is a long long time away.

Sony did say that membership services will keep the PS4 lifecycle going. The PS3 is still alive and gets new games even after a couple years of production stopping.

It will 100% be up to Sony to decide whether you are allowed to migrate your account to the new console since they own your information now not DE.

how did 2.5 years get stretched into 3-5 games are already basically developed for them just being held off anouncement untill consoles launch has been announced and current estimation for ps5 fall 2020 not 2021 which is 1.5 years from now

<edit>I stand corrected Next gen games are already being announced Starfield was at E3 this year and is marketed for the next gen consoles which means they deiffintaly be anounced soon with more solid release dates

"industry analyst Michael Pachter has gone on record to say that a PS5 release in 2018 has a "very low probability." He added that the PS5 release is "25% [probability] next year and 75% in 2020." This more or less goes along with what most insiders believe, although some beleive 2019 is looking more and more likely."

Cross platform syncing is not going to happen beetween PC, Xbox, Switch and playstation because Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo want money as well meaning they keep their own version of plat that is a bit different from one another and PC. If they were to have cross platform all would likely be expecting a % of what is spent on plat and tennogen reguardless of if the players are playing on their system or not since people could potentially bypass givign Sony money by buying plat on PC. This is why cross platform is highly unlikely to happen in free to play games.

Migration/cross system between say PS4 to PS5 when the time comes is likely since the game can be adapted to the new system and the account info is held in the system instead on your computer. Sony will be able to make money off both and in turn people who then get a PS4 when it is the old system will still be able to play a game with an active community and in turn be likely to spend money on the game. It would also make people who want to get the new system but still keep playing a game they have been playing not have to think twice about it due to not needing to start a new account.

Kits are commonplace in the development field. Hell, my college had a Playstation and Xbox dev kit in the main lobby for students to work on for their projects. Them advertising that they will get kits isnt some kind of special treatment. It is near-standard/to-be-expected for the large companies.
