M3GAL0
Dunno if this has already been suggested (odds are it probably has) or not but I figured I'd post it anyway since I think its a great idea that might fix the Prime vs Stock Warframe problem, and perhaps work for Prime weapons and regular weapons as well.First, Primes should require the regular warframe to be built and leveled up to 30 in order to bulld the prime version (the base WF will be consumed in the process). You will still have to gather the BP and perhaps to extra parts in the void, though since you'll be using the base WF in the crafting acquiring them should be a bit easier and you shouldn't have to gather as many parts... or something. (Up for debate and revising)Second, once you have "upgraded" your WF to Prime status you can switch its appearance back to the normal version if you like via the customization menu and of course switch out your helmets. However, the extra polarized slot and whatever stat increases your Primed WF posseses will still apply. You can apply the same principle to the Weapons as well. This will greatly increase the relevance of base/stock WFs. It wil force players to get the regular WF before they are able to build the prime. That way its not pointless to get the normal WF when a Prime version is on its way.I didn't like the idea of turning Prime WFs into skins, nor am I fully satisfied with the system as it is now. I hope my suggestion helps in some way or at least sparks more discussion on the topic. Edited September 12, 2013 by M3GAL0

Namacyst
I play along... ^^ The lore is: Prime Warframes are the first Warframes build by the Orokin. Normal Warframes are reverse-engineered Warframes based on the Prime versions. Therefor upgrading a normal (reverse engineered) Warframe to a Prime will not work because the original Orokin technologiy is still not fully understood and the normal Warframes represent only a fraction of the true Power of a original Orokin build Prime Warframe (which is sadly not reflected in the game for balance purposes). Same goes for Weapons. For the visual part.. Helmets would work (and worked until DE removed the option to equip normal "stock" helmets on Prime frames).. anything else.. no.. or to ask a question: Why would you want your shiny golden Prime Warframe to look like a dull normal version? Histori
If they change mission types in this patch they can only add Sabotage and this new Escort mission type to Void. So what is next who knows, myb no more Prime weapons in Void.I still got like 100 keys for i dunno what reason, and i find that Void is boring with all those Lakes and Elevators. Phoenix86
argument raised a lot of times OP, many agree, many do not... imho this could be an alternative way to build a prime, not the only one. So we can have 2 ways to make Primes: using the base frame + something \/ gather BPs as always

Namacyst
All right. How do you brainiacs plan on explaining Excalibur Prime? Easy... ..or how much does the Hunter pack cost? ;) But Lore-wise it's the same. Excalibur Prime is the Orokin build Excalibur with superior technology which is not fully understood by the Tenno but nonetheless they reverse-engineered the normal Excalibur from parts they found from it to have the weak version at their disposal... and maybe because they did not have the 50 bucks to get the Prime version :D Edited September 12, 2013 by Namacyst
M3GAL0
I realize the Lore states that the Primes are the highly advanced Precursors to the reverse-engineered Tenno WFs. There definatly needs to be something that doesn't make getting the original WFs and weapons pointless. (Other than getting XP and ranking up) But at the same time, Primes should have more qualities that set them apart aside from the Bling, extra polarity, and the ability to use those crates in the void. But it all comes down to adding challenging End-Game content where Uber weapons and frames will be required to be successful. Perhaps the devs will add some stuff that will unlock the full potential of the Primes gradually later on. (or perhaps that could be a goal/reward of the end-game content)

(Other than getting XP and ranking up) The thing is, as you said yourself, getting all Warframes for Mastery XP and Ranks is not pointless. The problem right now is.. getting a Rank higher than 7 is pointless. If DE would finally release a Mastery Ranked reward system then those questions would have never been asked in the first place. M3GAL0
I still think its a cool idea to use the original WFs in the making of Primes. As they stand now, primes are not all that better stat wise to thier normal counterparts. Obviously we don't have the technology or knowledge to unlock thier full potential. (Speaking of the Lore) So if thats the case how are we able to build them? Sure we loot BPs and parts from the voids but wouldn't it be more effiecient to simply modify/jury rig an existing WF with Prime parts looted from the Orokin towers, rather than build them from scratch? Then gradually upgrade them by finding more tech and lost Orokin knowledge to unlock thier full power and potential until they finally become a True Prime. On top of that it would save inventory space xD Edited September 13, 2013 by M3GAL0

(or perhaps that could be a goal/reward of the end-game content) I think you are missing the basic concept. I don't know what your billable hour is, but mine is enough to prefer a prime (which has the extra polarity slot already) then to have to forma and do another 30 levels (again and again) to tweak. Honestly, with the primes saving me on polarizing time and RL time due to the extra polarity is the biggest benefit. Primes = Less time to polarize out (assuming you agree with the original polarities) This makes sense if you think that the inventor would know the best way to streamline production, so the original models (primes) are more efficient, but the new versions can become so with more effort. I'm not saying you have to level up to 30 and polarize each and every time. (heck thay should allow polarizations to transfer over if they were to implement the idea of upgrading normal WFs into Primes). I'm only saying that for the first time you turn your normal WF into a Prime. No plat or too much time required. i agree with you mate.with no upgrade to primes,i have feeling that in future, more and more frames will collect dust in garage Exactly! Once you get your Prime, your normal WF is either sold or left to collect dust in the garage. Its a waste.
