What Does "procs." Mean?

OP, You need education in your classic rpg game terminology.
You must be young, and that's ok. we all gotta start some where.

out of curiosity how many of you know these basic terms?

Meta-game
Mobs
Toon
LFG
WTS
WTB
AoE
AC
Trash mob
Meat Shield
Sword and Board
Redshirt

Think critical hit chance, only applied to an effect other than amplified damage. For example, if your weapon has a 5% proc chance to set an enemy on fire, then you'd have 1 in 20 chances that each attack with that weapon will result in that person beginning to run around on fire.

I know them all and more... you forgot stuff like aggro, link, kite.... I almost forgot Train....

Proc was originally short for "spec_proc" (spec_proc is short for "special procedure") which is a term used by the original programmer of Circle-MUD, Jeremy Elson.

 

It's basically a piece of code that is triggered when sometimes happens in a game world.

 

Recently, the term has been used in the Warframe community to describe potential changes to the game in terms of the damage model where striking an enemy with a critical hit will also trigger additional elemental damage.  The change to critical hits proc'ing damage is supposed to attempt to bring some balance to the game, yet the Soma has a massive critical hit profile and is currently better than every primary gun, thus adding more power to guns that crit alot will probably actually further separate the power of the guns (IMO).
