Huge black squares appear on my screen

Basically while playing at some random point, specially in Duviri's circuit mode, a huge black square appears in front of my screen, not allowing me to see my warframe, enemies, whatever it should be on screen. I believe the UI with health bars, buffs and all that goes over it, but those black squares usually appear on the center so i'm not really sure. It's just big black flat rectangles/squares blocking everything behind, kinda feels like a texture not loading.

Problem is those things are pretty big and they last between 2 and 10 seconds, i can perfectly move and do all my actions but i'm basically blind with them. And yeah, they follow the camera, you can't just look the other way.

This happened to me a few times some months ago on random missions but it was a very rare thing, it's now with Duviri when they pop up basically on every circuit run

I guess it could be caused by some graphic option but i have no clue on where to start

Could you post what specs you have (namely CPU & GPU are fine), and verify game files from the launcher? The EE log (in '%LOCALAPPDATA%/Warframe') should also have any listed error for missing textures or files in it (it generates new every play session if you've opened the game again after this has happened). Outside of that, I'd recommend updating any GPU drivers, they can sometimes cause issues if they're older.

AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor 4.00 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

Not too great, but never had performance issues with warframe like drop frames and all that.

Win10, 16GB RAM, etc. Game files verified, says everything is fine.

Can't play a lot this week but i'll try the EE log when i can and update drivers and let you know, thanks!

If you still run into this issue, can you take a screenshot with the F6 key and attach it to this thread? We might be able to find the culprit on our end. (Please use the F6 key to take the screenshot since there is valuable info in those files)

Again, i was on circuit mode, playing Wisp, public game, void flood phase, not sure if that helps. Also GPU drivers are up to date

The first part is just the world state info (worldstate.php) pulling in, it does that periodically; the errors are just unset or unknown properties, they shouldn't really affect anything since they should be unused. Ideally they should clean this endpoint up (or handle unused properties better), but it isn't any cause for issue here. The DuviriAshigaruAnimController going unused is a bit odd, but I'd figure the model should just A pose if its animations are broken or something.

The info they likely need is level / position to replicate the issue (and of course the screenshot to compare against what you see):

  • /Lotus/Levels/Duviri/WarframeArenas/DaxCampCombat.level
  • Position: 9.8, -0.5, 39  H:-90  
  • /Lotus/Levels/Proc/Duviri/DuviriLandscapeArenasOnly/DCA.lp

It might be related to one of the Duviri enemies using an attack, it's possible the specific effect is not rendering properly on your GPU. In the meantime, you could try switching DirectX drivers (12 to 11 or 11 to 12) from the launcher to see if that helps, DX12 implementation is still technically "beta" and I've had similar issues with black squares in Deimos when it released on DX12 too, so it's kind of a "change it and see which works better" thing until it's more smoothed out haha.

I've encountered this as well to varying levels of extremity, but not inside Duviri. It also tends to last for at least 30-40 seconds. I've only had it happen when playing in public and using a warframe with an AOE ability like Gauss' thermal sunder or Frost's Avalanche. I've not been able to replicate it consistently, but it comes up with some frequency.

For PC specs I've got an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, 32GB of RAM

I saved the EE log to google drive since it has a lot of text in it

Wild that this has been an issue for so many years (I found posts since 2018) and yet still hasn't been stamped out yet. Thanks for the heads up about Disabling Bloom. I'll give that a shot since I've been having the same issue lately.

My only solution to dealing with the issue was to back up into the nearest available object I could back into in order to "reset" the black cubes.

I figured it was a lighting issue. Since it seemed volumetric in a way.
