To Potato The Castanas. Yay Or Nay?

Question

I have seen how they are useful against the Corpus and can even be used on other factions. But, much like the Penta, there is a limit on how many you can deploy. Quite frankly, I'm tired of putting potatoes on things that II will rarely use. The Castanas have a very limited clip size and a slow fire rate. They may be used for stealth gameplay but who really does stealth missions these days eh? Most of us just pick up the weapon with the craziest damage and shoot the first thing we see. So, how about it? Are the Castanas worth a Catalyst? Or nah?

I'll say what people usually say: It's up to you. The worth of a potato isn't only in utility alone, but in fun factor for yourself.

Some will say it's worth it for them since they have fun and find them useful as a secondary. If you can't even have fun with it without a potato, I don't think putting a potato will change anything, even if it becomes relatively powerful.

Dunno, I did but I liked the different style.

There are plenty of guns, so I liked the idea of something different.

However, I dont use them very often it has to be said.

They are powerful enough, but a Penta will do much more damage, more often, to larger groups.

That makes a lot of sense. Are you a professor somewhere? XD

But think about it. You can set traps along doorways. One of the things I don't like about deployable weapons is kps. It takes longer to kill.

For me they are, I even threw two formas on them. This is what I run:

Grineer

Corpus

Void

Edit:

I main Loki, they become so much fun with him.

Switch Teleport a mob to them,

Radial Disarm them and throw them at the ground while all the mods chase you.

Stick them to Decoy then sitch with it, they come with the decoy and boom everything.

for me actually worth it XD infested defend put a vortex / batile up and throw it under them or at the vortex and zap they die

also low firerate... i have all mult shot in 2 shot and u at max capacity like 3 trap per shot... quick reload so i dont see the problem

the only think i want right now is a Mod like fire storm for pistol

Truth to be told Castanas don't need big clip size nor fast fire rate - they make up for it with AoE and high base damage. In addition you are limited to 6 charges anyway so just slap some multishot (up to 100%) and possibly maxed Ice Storm and you'll be able to deploy all charges in one clip. If you have access to Cicero and Thetra mods Castanas can deliver devastating amounts of corrosive damage (more then enough to kill yourself).

Personally I love Castanas.

Just like the Penta, there is a maximum deployable amount. Meaning we can only deploy 5 for thee Penta and 6 for the Castanas. Wouldn't that mean multi-shot mods are useless. You're just increasing how many you put out in a shot unless that's what you were going for.

Well if you get up to 180% multishot, most of the time you are putting 6 out with the 2 in the clip (2x3).

I think multishot is worth it...

Or you could go 100% and Ice Storm for 3x2.

The reload is fast enough that you can throw a clip, detonate, and throw another clip almost immediately.

The limiting factor is really the reload time, not the fire rate, so Stunning Speed is an option...

That's exactly my point - with multishot you can deploy all charges with one clip - no time wasted on reloading. Additionally if you are using Magnum Force (duh...) accuracy penalty proves to be quite helpful since you can cover bigger area with one trigger pull thanks to projectile spread.

As a plus, if any of our first two shots is a double instead of triple, you could throw the first of your second clip and have a total of 8 in most cases.

But yeah, for the most part is better to have the multishots and then detonate at the reload. You can get used to it pretty quickly.

Hmm, seems to me you answered your own question already. I certainly wouldn't put a potato on something I think/know I would rarely use from the get go.  I've put potatoes on quite a few weapons I no longer use but when I did, I had fun with them and got lots of use out of them.
