Because you should definitely be facing away from the enemy.

You use the lasers for several reasons.

 

1) You like pushing buttons. This apparently is what irritates the OP.

2) They'll clear a sector that is otherwise undefended.

3) You're Nyx and want to clear the immediate vicinity right friggin' now.

4) You want the laser on cooldown so you can advance on that sector without some chucklehead (see #1) shooting you in the back with it.

 

So there are valid reasons for using the lasers.

For me staying at the pod is extremely boring, lasers same, and i use weapons with short fire range, so i can't stay at the pod.

 

I think it should be used only i case of necessity, when the health of the pod is under 25% for example.
