I was just wondering if the extra status chance was worth the 30% less damage.

In my opinion, the extra status chance is mostly useful only if:

- your weapon has decent status chance

- the elemental combinations you're making have a useful proc against the specific faction

- said proc is something you enjoy using in combat, even if straight damage can be more effective (most important factor IMO)

 

For example, while I know Corrosive + Heat is more effective against the Infested in most situations, especially for straight damage, I like to do Corrosive + Blast for certain weapons simply for the knockdown CC.

On melee? Not so much, status isnt viable on melee. If you go close range, you want the target to die in the lowest time possible. Go for fever strike.

It depends what proc. Corrosive is really useful in weakening enemies. Viral is also very good. Some other procs... meh. Less interesting.
