The Future... Tenno Warships

I was playing the Event this week and an excellent idea hit me.

(The tenno are able to build a handful of relays but no form of defensive measures other than themselves?!)

What I propose,in down the road development, are dojo funded and built fleets of defensive vessels. These vessels could then be sent to fight the Famorians when they arrive. It would start in three phases with three tiers.

Phase 1: Defenses for the relays.

this would consist of small lasers, shields and rockets.

Phase 2: Space Docks for dojos, relays, and the void(for secret project research). This would consit of Enhanced tech research from the void and would supercharge the relay defenses as well as add energy beam cannons to the exterior.

Phase 3: The Tenno Fleet.

this would consist of fighters, frigates, stealth insertion vehicals, destroyers, battleships and carriers.

Ghost and Shadow clans have 50% reduction cost on fighters and small craft, with large sized ships being at regular prices. Carriers, battleships, and destroyers will be able to be donated to the cause, but not commanded due to lack of manpower. Each ship will require a set amount of members to "pilot". Whill Large clans like storm and moon will have a 50% fuel reduction price as well as a 10% buff for other clan ships in the battle due to the presence of a larger clan being there.

I think we might actually be heading in this direction. The Relays are clear, evident symbols of Tenno power, a sign we've moved out from lurking in the shadows and can rival the other factions in might.

But Archwing needs some expansion, needs to have gamemodes and Galleon trench runs and maybe asteroid mining. We have all this possibility, so who knows where we go from here?

I was thinking on this earlier, and i think that both a defense and excavation mission would be a welcome addition to archwing.

Defense could be a few variants, perhaps you're protecting a small capital ship as it lumbers through the battlefield, a small escort of its own space units alongside; or you could be protecting a refinery from an assault with the help of some defense turrets

Excavation would be similar to the planetary one, but have it so that you're covering a Mining robot like the Ogma or Gox while it moves to a mining location and excavates the minerals (perhaps tellurium?)

Absolutely!!! I really think that as a People, the tenno are about to go on the offensive.

One Tenno on foot can destroy an entire army.

Same question for Archwing: Why do we NEED this?

Imagine what a Tenno ship could do, if a Tenno on foot can destroy an army...

I'm not exactly pro-Warship, but I would enjoy having smaller spaceships. Cruisers, Assault Frigates, Things that fit Space Super Soldiers.

A pair of wings is easily outmatched by, umm..., any decent ship.

We seem to be proving that wrong with our current battles, and potentially through the Old War as well.

That we can barely handle on our own, let alone disable the core. We barely even scratch it.

The point is, the Tenno's strength comes from their Warframes. Everything we have revolves around the power they give us - the strength, the maneuverability. That's what makes us the threat we are, what gives us our edge against our enemies - the moment we resort to warships, hiding in fighter craft and battling our foes that way is the moment we're no longer playing by OUR rules, but they THEIR rules. Hiding away in the pilot or gunner's seat of another ship negates every strength the Tenno have built themselves to be.

And let us not forget that weapons of ship's like the Fomorians are already geared towards taking down capital ships and the like, things far less maneuverable than our Archwings. There's a rule of nature that states the smaller object is more agile than the larger one, quicker, more flexible, harder to hit. That's what our Archwings make us all the more masters of, and why we are so dangerous to our enemies who think along the lines of "fighters and larger capital ships" in war.

The idea to add larger, massive warships is a perfect addition to the Warframe universe. While you don't really need Battlecruisers, Battleships or Dreadnoughts for the Tenno clans or Alliances, you can do just fine with light and heavy frigates, destroyers (double the firepower of a heavy frigate, double the mass and armor, same maneuverability), light and heavy cruisers (light for screening against small craft and heavy for punching Grineer in the face).

My idea to your idea, OP, goes like this:

Basically, the higher the rank, the stronger the ship. Clan leaders get carriers that host a torrent of Archwings or frigates.
-Archwings and light frigates are owned by members smaller in rank, like, from Utility to Sage.
-Leaders and Officers can get frigates and light cruisers.
-Officers and Generals can choose between heavy cruisers and destroyers.

To build them, each member would need to amass a huge lump of resources (That doesn't take forever to grind for, of course and is within a reasonable time span, say, a week or two of grinding in free time):
-Alloy Plates and Ferrite to assemble the hull
-Circuits, Control Modules, Neurodes, Neural Sensors for the ship's electronic systems and wiring as well as the shields
-Orokin Cells, Circuits and Control Modules for the propulsion system
-Alloy Plate, Ferrite, Gallium, Plastids for the ship's weaponry

Depending on class, each ship's role would be significantly different, sharing only a few similarities with one another:
-Frigates would serve as the primary screening ships, capable of annihilating any strike craft (Small ships) that get within range of the Clan's or Alliance's fleet. They would usually concentrate around the cruisers and have high maneuverability.
-Destroyers would be the secondary anti-ship warships with intimidating firepower and a small amount of point-defense guns for screening, and with a powerful frontal cannon that would rip weaker ships in half in a single shot. Similar maneuverability to frigates.
-Cruisers would be the primary anti-ship vehicles, holding the most powerful guns of a Clan and also serving a secondary role of providing anti-strike craft and anti-missile duty for the mother carrier. Average maneuverability.
-Battleships would serve as the capital ship for an Alliance leader and his/her Chosen Few. Holding the biggest and most intimidating guns in the entire star system, it would easily be able to stand toe-to-toe with a Fomorian and have low maneuverability and would not be so good at point-defense duties.
-Carriers would be the primary motherships for delivering frigates and Archwings into battle, or serve as the ''Dojo away from the Dojo'' for the Clan fleet or Lisets. They would have low-to-average maneuverability and light weaponry, equal to that of a frigate, but provided they have a full fleet around them, they would be equal in strength to a flotilla of battleships.

From this, we learn of these roles:
Liset - Primary insertion vehicle, unarmed, highest speed and maneuverability, stealth drive.
Archwings - primary ''fighters/interceptors'' of the fleet, highest maneuverability, average speed. (At least, until we see actual fighters added in-game)
Frigates - primary screening ships, high maneuverability, cruiser escort, high speed.
Destroyers - fleet escort, secondary combat ship, higher-than-average maneuverability, higher-than-average speed.
Cruisers - primary fleet escort, primary combat ship, average maneuverability, average speed.
Carriers - flagship, primary transportation vehicle, low maneuverability and speed, weak weaponry (balanced out by having a lot of guns).
Battleships - flagship, ultimate combat ship, low maneuverability and speed, most powerful weaponry and largest range.

Starship weapon types:
Point-defense guns (PDG's) - meant to take out incoming strike craft or missiles/torpedoes, they would have a low damage rating with a massive rate of fire (Think Phalanx CIWS or light rockets). Short reload time.
Missile tubessome of the primary anti-ship weapons, they would be stored in tubes and launched from them during a battle. Fire and forget-type. Short reload time.
Kinetic cannons - idea based on Battlestar Galactica and Halo. Dual-barrel turrets that fire rail- or coil-accelerated shells at a fraction of lightspeed that generate massive kinetic energy upon impact, tearing sections of hulls apart, if unshielded. Spread all across the ship. Average time between shots (reload time).
Plasma torpedoes - another version of primary anti-ship weaponry, launched from torpedo tubes at the front of the ship, they would be the primary frontal arsenal of a warship. Average time between shots.
Antimatter warheads - stored only on battleships, these would be the second most powerful weapons. Loaded on missiles, they would be fired from torpedo tubes with the goal of detonating in the middle of the enemy fleet, or wiping out the enemy battleship/Fomorian.
Energy projector arrayplaced at the very front of the ship, this would be the most powerful weapon of the ship, capable of slicing through shields and multiple unshielded ships at once, it would have an extremely low fire rate in exchange for ultimate firepower. It would fire a beam of generated energy that is capable of overriding shielding and melting armor instantly, upon impact.

Ships need not be controlled by players, they can also be controlled by NPC's. You can keep the standard of 4-players-per-match and have a fleet of, say, 10 frigates, destroyers and cruisers engaging a massive Grineer or Corpus fleet. 6 of those ships would be NPC's that are randomly generated, based on what ships do the players have. For example, three players have cruisers, one has a destroyer. Then all of the NPC's would have Archwings, with maybe just one having a frigate. At least one frigate would be necessary.

If a carrier or a battleship is in the battle, it would raise the Tenno fleet size to 20-40 ships, most being frigates and Archwings.

Or you can create massive fleet battle missions for which a Clan or an Alliance needs to gather its best combat-able members and fly into battle with the enemies of the Tenno. Up to 20 people, perhaps, so as to not overload the game? Or depending on clan-size and the area of battle. But NPC-controlled ships would depend on mission type and map size (Fleet battles would have the largest maps while, say, a sabotage would have the smallest, since you would need to destroy an enemy shipyard and then quickly scramble out).

Just adding to the OP's idea, and so that DE might actually entertain the idea of making Warframe far more entertaining than it is right now.

Seeing as the Grineer and Corpus are by far larger than the Tenno in sheer size and firepower, the Tenno would need something to protect its Relays and Dojos with from those large fleets. Archwings and small-arms weaponry just doesn't cut it before a Relay or Dojo is FUBAR. Fleets are the future!

Tenno cannot destroy even a Corps-sized unit (at least 2 divisions of soldiers (10,000-30,000 soldiers), by NATO standards), let alone touch an Army (2+ Corps) or an Army Group (2 or more Armies).

I don't see Tenno as NEEDING big warships. They have stealth ships that can put them anywhere to wreak havoc.

Maybe it could work, but they will ALWAYS be outnumbered and outgunned. Its the classic skill versus numbers.

Wehrmacht (Quality) versus the Red Army (Quantity) didn't work out very well now did it?

Clans that can build these speical warships could gain access to some nice endgame sectors or be allowed to partake in special clan missions that are uber hard and can have more than four players on the node.

Perhaps the more warships you build the more missions your clan can join and there can be special squad captains or or something.

The Tenno aren't just a militia group after all. They were part of a once greater empire. Just like they recovered the ancient Archwing technology. I'm not saying they have to have ships rivaling the Famorians unless your clan is just thaat big ;) but they could still have some larger space carriers for some large scale offensives.

Since i'm on the subject how about some space dogfights with the Lisets just like how you have the Archwing missions. A quick story mission to recover another, older, component for the ship could make it fight for battle. When you think about it that would make sense as The Law of Averages states that the Tenno won't always be able to stay hidden when they're right under a grineer cruiser. I imagine Ordis would pop up with an alert saying you'd need to make a break for hyperspace velocity while avoiding heavy fire from the cruiser.

The Wehrmact was a massive, well-trained and well-equipped army.

It's better for the Tenno to have its own fleet of warships than let us think we're under Grineer and Corpus noses with our obvious Dojos.
