I do art and story commissions.

Because 2pro.

Just kidding, I'm not pro. But it takes up a lot of time, as Yui said.

Si...

Drawing other people's stuff isn't as fun as drawing own stuff :( specially when you've been doing that for years...

When someone said 'Do What You Love and You'll Never Work a Day' I call that bulls- 'cause work is work and it'll turn what you like into what you don't, it's not that fun and it'll take a lot more time than how you used to do it only for hobby.

tis why I don't take request... it reminds me of working...

I feel it all depends on the frequency of what you do. I take maybe one or two art commissions a month, although I do put detail into it. Story ones I take as I finish them. I guess it also depends on the commissions itself. If there are things you don't like doing but do them anyway, you probably won't enjoy it nearly as much as doing ones that you do enjoy.

 *standing ovation clap*

Amen to that.

Although I'm afraid you curse yourself Yui by making it look so easy and fun.

When really... it's a lot of... *draws line* ...CTRL-Z, *draws another line* CTRL-Z, *fuuu--- draws line* CTRL-Z...

*rinse and repeat until you throw the tablet across the room*

And with a hobby you're not stressing on a deadline...which is probably the biggest divide when art becomes work or play.

OH my god noooo not the deadline!! D'X wehhhh!! make it go away!!!!

And yes Jack is right, Art looks fun and easy but the frustration that comes when it doesn't come out the way as expected drove me crazy.

Not with his alt helm.

Dude wottt? His Prinecess Leia buns are fricken fabulous!

that's only ok if you work on private commission, if you work as contracted publisher, it comes in projects, you skip = you miss and other contracted artists will take your assignments. Trust reduce over time, too. I don't wanna stay where I am forever, I too wanna get contracted with bigboom publishers like Paizo or Wizard and the only way to get it is pushing the works out there as much as possible. The bigger the job, the bigger the payment+sold percentage and everytime they use your work, you get payed more. So heck yes, it's fricken stressful.

*Coming outta lurking for a sec*

Kinda seems hard to keep Volt looking fabulous with so many different Cosmetics to consider now.

Got your Syandanas, Helmets, Armor, possibly Immortal skin and the changed color system to worry about.

I'm sure it could be done, but sometimes I just have to go back to using nothing. (Or nothing but my Syandana(And possibly a Sugatra).)

It can be rough getting into the industry professionally. I wish you luck in your endeavours!

...No, Fabulous Volt doesn't need petty cosmetics to be beautiful. His chic looks seep from him like a fresh Grineer clone from the Queens womb, and I'm not sorry for that imagery.

...Except the fact that his Storm helmet is considered a cosmetic, wait no... his frame came standard with that color scheme and helmet for he was kissed by the RNG God at his creation.

Too far? Too far.

Deadlines are both the bane of artistic creativity and joy, but also they keep artists alive.

Have you ever considered settling with a studio job instead of what seems to be free-lance publisher loads? The payments may not be as high, but at least its consistent. And actually it sounds as though you want that with the Wizards position, but if you're devoted to 2D you can always try Concept work for smaller game studios. And if you can't find an outlet then, there's still other positions for 2D like Texture work...ahh man, big calling for people in the industry for that. *shrug* Its your call though.

Ahh, I dunno. Sometimes its nice to have those moments where you got it just right, just how you saw it in your head. Its like tasting magic. :D

And when it doesn't come out right, it's like you've ingested a hive of frenzied mud-daubers.

The taste of stinging insects is really starting to get old... Yui, go make a magic machine that prints imagination, okay?

*shoves all teh moneys at ur face* Ur deadline is tomorrow, git 2 wurk, missy. i want a wurking imagine-ation machine on mah desk pronto.

I used to be an intern in graphic studio, it turned out that isn't what I want at all, I hate sitting and traveling to office and yet being in a room with people, especially as a full-time, I actually enjoy it more working at home being a freelance. Also not interested in full blown concept art nor texture works, I do texture work and 3d models in my free-time for snack money, but it's already enough for my fill. All I want is to paint for table-top RPG, which is what I'm already doing now and I found it to be most enjoyable out of all the art related industries. All the bosses I have are really nice and open-minded, the works contain a lot more amount of freedom for creativity,

The only problem is I want to be in THAT book making by THAT publisher, and to get in THAT Publisher, I need a lot of recommendations and connections and these publishers are providing me just what I need. Also 'cause Iamma fan of Paizo, They don't take full time artists neither, like other publishers, they have these list of contracts they send out to get respond if anyone in that list want to be in for the project, take it or leave it, but if the opportunity is there, why not? Overall I think I'm already on the right track, just gotta run a couple more miles.

A dream story is always nice to see. Definatly going to follow your deviant art to see if you make it to the finish line.

If me of all people can make it, you can most definitely make it, Yui!

Thanks, I'll try.

I did had my chance to be in Pathfinder NPC Codex, had some recommendations, got my name in for the view... until they looked through my DA and found my TF2 porns...

[Now I'm hoping they will do NPC Codex#2 and I'll try again]

:D I'm so glad you have your heart set on it, so few have your dedication and that's so awesome. Please let us know when you receive word from Paizo or Wizard because I just know you will. XD Because when Yui the relentless is storming their heels, its only a matter of time.

As far as studios go, I guess I'm weird for liking projects made by the collective effort of many instead of just spinning my own thread. I mean yeah, we all know group projects involve dealing with other people's sh*t, but I dunno, it's very motivating for me. *shrug* To each his own, am I right?

Perhaps make a separate account for professional work, and personal work? It still won't quite stop them, but it will at least deter them. D: I want you to get the best shot at your dreams.

I did after that. Created a separate folder only for portfolio.

I must say your work is wonderful. Love the often haunting expressions in the faces, and your texture work in clothes...unf, so good. And dat value range... so crisp.

The only thing I can suggest is that your colors sometimes feel a bit flat at times, or that when you overlay colors it seems as though it's only one color being blended in a certain area in some of the pieces. Brown satchels, orange hair... sometimes you might want to try to mix up the colors to provide a range of tones. Like for example purple lowlights, mid tones of a neutral color, and creamy yellow highlights, rather than one color throughout. There are some hints of this in some of the pieces, but for what appears to be your card artwork it seems to be lacking a bit. I think it'll make them really pop out. :D

thanks for the suggestion but I don't stick to one style, I stay adaptable to whatever my boss throw at me, if it's flat, that's how I want it to be, if you looked through the old works I did what you suggested in the past already, I know how, but I rather feed the demand of what/who I'm drawing for, not just simply try to push my style onto others. It's better to be able to pull out more than 1 style anyway. If you find the beauty in the way you color, that's good for you, that just doesn't sell in my area.

Also this is not an art class, if I want an advice or suggestion, I'll ask for it.
