How Is It That We Don't Have A Spear Yet?

I'm not going to bother listing them, it'd take too long. We've got like 200 weapons, and no spear yet. To put that in context, we got a gunblade, 2 saw-guns, a laser canon and a throwing hammer before we got a spear. Does that seem a little backwards to anyone else?

EDIT: as there seems to be some misunderstanding of the differences between spears and polearms...

Spears are built mainly to be thrusted (or in some cases thrown), polearms are built mainly to be swung (yes you can swing a spear, or thrust a polearm, but its not the intended/most effective usage, also you really can't throw a polearm).

Tonbo is a spear, its derived from Tonbogiri, which is a spear.

Polearm's and spears are two different kind of weapons. Spear's are typically thrusting weapons, where as polearms lean more towards sweeping. Tonbogiri is a spear, but Tonbo is a polearm, unfortunately.

Just because it doesn't conform to stereotype, doesn't make it any less of a spear

Semantics.

The Tonbo isn't wielded like a spear. It is used more like a staff.

The point is, that when people are asking for a spear, they mean that they want a thrusting spear, not another swinging polearm/staff.

It's not a stereotype, its a category (stereotype suggests oversimplification).

Except its not really very spear-like in this game.

Slash Damage?

If if was really a spear, it would be a Puncture weapon.

Why puncture? there's more spears then thrusting a spear through someones body, where you could slash at them not get it stuck or sweep and slash multiple people.

Both are pole weapons, but polearms serve the function you describe, not spears.

I mean primarily puncture damage. There would probably be a bit of slash/impact damage too, but mostly puncture.

Reason: it makes the most sense. spears are primarily thrusting weapons, and that is what they do best. as far as melee weapons go, they are the standard thrusting and puncturing weapon.

Reason 2: we have more than enough slash melee weapons for a long time. There are very few puncture melee weapons (Halikar and Fang/Fang Prime), and it would be nice to get another puncture weapon.

A spear wouldn't be bad. Like, a stance with a combo that is just a charge forward, impaling everything in its run. I can imagine side swings attack with stagger but weak, perfect for Crowd Control and a sneak attack similar to the one of Dark Souls, piercing the enemy and raising it to bath in his blood and parry animation that swings at the feet of the opponent to knock him down and finish him.

Gods I love spears.
