Certain Bosses Are Near Impossible.

Now, I'm a mostly solo player.  And I've just recently started so I will freely admit that I'm probably underpowered or whatever, but because I solo mostly, I'm finding that Infested and the Corpus are a bit too rough for me to handle.

But the Grineer?  Even with the new Scorpions, I can handle them with a decent amount of fun and challenge.

However, I'm stymied by the boss Sargas Ruk.  He's on the Saturn arm, planet Tethys.

I'm playing an Excalibur at Rank 27, I have a Rank 17 Braton, Rank 19 Aklato and Dual Skana (because that's all I've been able to afford.)  I've got some armour piercing mods on the Braton for extra damage, but other than that, it's been mostly ammo capacity boosters.

But Ruk's shield recharge rate, couple that with his shield sucking ability makes it too hard for me to do any damage to him.  By the time I've gotten him to 50% health, I'm completely out of ammo, and Slash Dash is useless, Radial Javelin is too energy intensive, and works best as a room cleaner.  If you have an open arena.  Which is rare.

Is anyone else having this problem with Ruk when they solo?  Or am I just too underpowered.

I'm also mostly a solo player. With Ruk I waited until I had some decent weapons and rank 30 frame before I tried him. Right now I have a rank 30 Ash frame and Excalibur frame with rank 30 Gram as well and I do pretty well against him. You should probably wait until you get stronger to face him

You are probably just underpowered, cause seriously I have never had any problems with him.

First time I thought him, I ran into him by accident as my low level Excalibur with a Strun (otherwise starting gear). Was kinda just mindlessly completing missions. Took a while, sure, but he ain't that hard.

Hi, it's seem that you are underpowered to solo bossruns. There's no problem with solo bosses farming if u have a good weapon, especially with Ruk. You Just need updated(with eligible mods) weapon, the best are Boltor and Hek(need rank , so not easy to get it). after u get one they won't be any problem. For now just try to find Guild and go with a group.

As others mentioned, you probably just need better mods for your weapons before soloing too many bosses.

A fun trick with Ruk if you have a Trinity is to let him cast bullet attractor on you , then cast link on him and shoot the living sh*t out of yourself.

Depends on your guns.

You need two good guns that do some good damage, both need armor piercing.

Energy Siphon is also a Godsend depending on your frame. Excalibur... eh. Yeah, not the frame I'd use against this guy if I had a choice. Volt would be a good choice.

The higher the magazine capacity the better. You could try a Bronco (it should reload fast enough that he won't regen his shields) and then as another weapon, some type of machinegun -- Gorgon, Braton, Boltor, etc. Whatever it is, it needs to have a high clip capacity and good damage.

Deplete his shields with the Bronco-type pistol. Once shields are down, make him eat your main gun's firepower. Also, throw your Warframe Power in too. Once your clips/energy are done, GET AWAY FROM HIM. Let him regen his shields while you recup your energy, reload both of your guns, etc.

Also, a GOOD melee weapon will help, a Glaive would allow you to clear most of the crap on the way to him without wasting any ammo. Facing this guy with full Ammo is much easier than getting there and having your Main Gun half empty.

Ammo boxes are only a few hundred credits, and can be obtained freely through login rewards if your ammo is becoming a problem.

Also, as others have stated, the blue-circle thing is a bullet magnet, so you may just be killing yourself. :P

I solo a lot too and have soloed every boss, and found most exceptionally easy truth be told. However, that was before resetting my account, this time around due to changes in mod drop rates it will take some time before I can solo all of them. The trick is to learn how to approach the various bosses, once you find a technique that works for you its usually straight forward. I wont tell you how to handle every boss here but will give some tips.

1 bosses that use melee, use boxes, platforms anything that allows you to gain some height.

2. do not overlook the benefits of using cold damage, not only does it get a bonus to shield damage it also slows bosses down, this includes rate of fire allowing you to stand in the line of fire far longer before retreating to let your shields regen.

3, clear as many trash mobs as possible before getting into range and triggering the boss animation.

4, the boltor is probably the best general purpose weapon for fighting bosses, some others are more specialised, but when solo, being able to stagger a boss is huge. Using the boltor in conjunction with cold damage it is possible to perma stagger many bosses that cannot be stunned with electrical damage. I personally use cold + electrical and ap for grineer/corpus, and cold + fire damage for infested.

5, Do not settle on a single frame for use against all bosses, use frames that exploit the weakness of the race you are attacking, if you are not sure about elemental vulnerabilities use the wiki.

6, leads on from 5, use the wiki to research techniques that work for each boss.

7, more of a general tip, it seems obvious but many folks don't recognise its importance, for any group of weapons the first mod you should be leveling up is the one that increases base damage, serration, hornets nest, point blank and pressure point, this is because all other damage mods scale from the weapons base damage, increasing the base mods increases the damage of elemental's

So grinding, get money buy better stuff?  I guess I can handle that.  Thanks.

Disciple, I haven't gotten those mods yet.  The only +damage mod I got was for melee base damage.  And ranking up the melee weapons is rough.

1. You lack the level and the equipment.

2. I find it irrational to be able to solo bosses even with medium gear.

Its a big enough problem that once you have maxed out a frame completely along with its weapons, you can basically solo anything in the game, and it wont even require you to use your head. Bosses need to go harder, not easier. Those who have bad equipment have room to improve, however those who have maxed everything out can no longer do a damn thing except to restart the entire process with a new frame (which brings us back to the Warfarmers thread and the rice fields).

You're not doing anything wrong, he's not impossible to kill either, he's just badly designed and is way too tough for his advertised level, and really doesnt belong on Saturn.

Heh, I had a lot of trouble soloing Sargas Ruk until I levelled up a bit. Same with the Hyena. Actually, I couldn't beat the Hyena until I maxed my Gorgon, because his shield could recharge faster than the reload time on all my guns at the time. >> Just gotta level a bit, pretty much.

A lot of bosses are this way.

Jackal will still one-shot you no matter who you are unless you are Rhino with Iron Skin and even then... he will put a serious hurt on you even with maxed Iron Skin.

And his attack is very iffy -- sometimes you can dodge it, other times you just can't and his legs regenerate much faster than the Wiki lets on.

I've been hit with a mortar while Slash Dashing with Excal (well, right after coming out of it). I've been hit with a mortar while sprinting.

Best way to dodge is to do a wall-launch on the pillar to the opposite end of the room, although it's not 100%. It's only failed me once though, cause I didn't see where his bombs went.

Either way, that attack is entirely and ridiculously overpowered for the 2nd planet in the game.

Pretty said when a Lv30 Rhino with maxed Iron Skin can't even take a hit from it. Well, he can... but it eats most of his health.

  • 2 weeks later...

One thing I will mention, and it's that the idea that an Excalibur suit isn't 'good enough'.  I've ranked it to 30.  It should be viable.  I will be posting on the appropriate threads.  And thanks.  It's nice to know that I AM under leveled, BUT that the bosses are also overpowered.
