Warframe Builder crit dmg wrong?

Question

I usually use Warframe Builder as a reference when I calculate damage, but when calculating crit damage what they got and what I got were different.

Soma Prime + Max Stormbringer stat

  • 1.2 impact
  • 4.8 puncture
  • 6 slash
  • 10.8 electric
  • 3x crit multiplier

Warframe builder: 36.48 total damage

My calculation: 68.4 total damage

I know that crit multipliers are applied after physical and elemental damage have been added up. What went wrong that both calculations aren't the same?

The Builder averages the crit. Your math is correct but it only factors the crit damage, not the crit chance.

Basically:

  • you did (total damage)*(crit multiplier) thus obtaining the damage you'd deal with 100% crit chance
  • Builder does (total damage)*(crit chance*crit damage + (1 - crit chance)), thus obtaining the true average

The difference is in the fact that the Builder calculates a 30% crit chance while you are doing it like the crit chance were 100% :)

In fact:

  • (1.2+4.8+6+10.8)*3 = 22.8*3 = 68.4
  • (1.2+4.8+6+10.8)*(0.3*3+0.7) = 22.8*1.6 = 36.48
