aligatorno
"They burn with our lost desires, lost instincts. Tenno tamed, but only just. Cast and haunted as game, trapped and tortured, yet they remained Animals. " We had lots of clues pointing to them being infested, and we had that scene at the end of SD. Is this the first time we got something conclusive about their sentience? Edited March 12, 2017 by aligatorno
Raven_Makoto
I think the dialogue's pointed towards the Operators and their anger towards the Orokin over the death of Margulis.

Zanoza-chan
We had enough clues for both their sentience and infested nature. 1) specters maybe are just uncontrolled warframes 2) Second Dream spoiler alert Spoiler warframe releases from Hunhow's blade itself... and we can see the bloody parts under the metal armor inside the wound 3) War Within spoiler alert Spoiler "control the Golden Maw like a warframe" - sounds like warframes can have their own will, becuz the Golden Maw definetly has it 4) Helminth saying interesting things... and after that many of infested boss' replicas become more clear 5) another spoiler alert Spoiler Chroma saying "all hush and empty in a womb of the sky" - sounds like his Operator died for some reason, and Chroma left uncontrolled 6) Silver Grove spoiler alert Spoiler Silvana was the greatest Infestation specialist... and she was brought to work on Titania and more, and more Edited March 12, 2017 by Zanoza-chan

It implies they are somewhat sentient and kept in line by the tenno, like you would a circus lion for example, hence the "animals" a bit later. Hemmo67
well if the infestation theory can be put together without leaving holes and gaps, warframes having their own will isn't exactly impossible o_O

Yeah, it sounds like the Tenno have tamed the wild Warframes but I guess it is possible that it is supposed to be "Tenno, tamed - but only just" which would change the subject to the Tenno rather than the Warframes. What concerned me from that video was the Corpus device that uses projections of Sentients to disable a Warframe. What are those guys messing with? Spoiler I mean it CAN be controlled. could your chair be controlled by transference? nope. that's why I think the Maw is not just orokin automation. and noone says the warframes has similar IQ to human, for example. they are simplified beings, ye, like animals. but surely a living beings, not just a things. and ofc we cannot know exactly. waiting for new quests to know more clear... I don't know exactly why the Tenno destroyed it but I'm sure they had good reason. Something like not wanting to let in the army of Sentients waiting at the other end... Now seeing them messing with Sentient tech they likely don't fully understand and it makes me think it isn't going to end well.

I'm sorry for editing my comments too late... I need more time to convert thoughts into words in the right way ._. I also have a strong feeling that Helminth can be the answer to many questions. "Why do you defile us? We are your flesh"... Sadly that part of game content doesn't seem to be the priority one for now

Lua. Don't forget that they got there after we pulled the moon from the Void. It seems that they add a Sentient's arm in machine at the very beginning. They just harness the energy , it's not really sentient technology.

That and it wasn't a warframe, it was just an infested creature. Likely the strain used to create Rhino later on but certainly nothing remotely close to a warframe. But it definitely was their direct ancestor.
