Sorties is kinda the only thing I do in sorties - everything else has become too boring. Sorties give random missions random buffs, so in some lucky cases you might get something challenging on 2nd/3rd sortie. Also assault is not a mission you play lots, since there isn't anything particular to farm. It's quite fast and relatively fun (since not played 1000 times).
