daktfi
That's a thing I was thinking for some time about. We do have gunblades that allow us to shoot without switching from melee. Why don't we have ranged weapon that will allow us to do quick-melee without switching to melee? No, seriously: look at spearguns, they even called spear! It's quite expected that we can not only shoot from them, but swiftly strike some stubborn enemy that managed to get too close for his own good... The plus: no holstering/swapping animation - the quick-melee will be real quick (and no lag after quick-melee, as it is now if you need a second one to follow instantly). The minus: currently, ranged weapons, especially slow-firing like spearguns, tends do do quite a punch, so melee damage has to be very different from normal shots, and without melee-specific mods. Main drawback: conceptual conflict between quick-melee from primary and equipped melee weapon. For example, equipped gunblade will fire on charged attack even if it's inactive at the moment, but if it's a quick-melee from speargun, and then it's charged - what will happen? tprx
Now that we can have melee+secondary equipped at the same time (Glaive type and Kestrel), why not a melee+primary? +
VadiseReikaz
Yes, with the caveat that you wont be able to quick attack with your melee in any way unless you holster your primary. Except glaives, where you throw with a charge attack.
Koldraxon-732
Primary/sidearm melee system? I have a suggestion on how to enable this, in the spoiler below. Spoiler -Unequipping your melee is required to enable this. -Use melee key while primary/sidearm weapons are equipped; Primary: if it's a bow, you'd try to swat the enemy with it like a club, if it's a rifle of any kind, you'd try to bash them with the front or the stock of the weapon, if it's a speargun, it will borrow stave attack animations. Secondary: Throwing knives would use dual-dagger attacks, pistols would be swung like a short stick or knife; dual sidearms would resort to elbowing the enemy. -Most attacks will knock back the enemy or stun them. Non-melees cannot perform finishers. Weapon melee attack examples: See Grineer Lancers trying to elbow you with the stock of their gun, or how characters in, say, Halo melee with guns equipped. So, I don't think that primary+melee will be any good. On the other hand, equipping together some pairable secondary and melee AND primary with melee attack ability will give us quite the diversity: to fire main gun and quick-melee anyone, or switch to secondary+melee to strike hard and shoot those who aren't yet in range for strike... or while that glaive is still flying. On the side note: there were suggestion to widen the range of weapons that can be dual-wielded with secondaries, like including single-handed ones (definitely solo daggers, probably rapiers, maybe swords/machetes/etc, and with all due respect to old man Indy - a whip!)
