    So maybe if we all get together and agree to not use Smeeta at all this coming year, then they'll leave Charm alone! (So ya it's inevitable)

    Personally I think if they just separated Affinity and Resource doubling into separate Charms rolls, then that would cut it down considerably without being a ridiculous nerf. But my biggest fear is that they'll just change it from a doubling to a +25% booster. That would hardly valuable, and assuming it rounds to the nearest integer then that would make single-item drops like Riven Slivers receive zero benefit. Nightmare scenario in that case.

    I don't intend to use Smeeta in frames that are not associated with farming but I think Smeeta would be insignificant if the reward system had drop chance progression. In this case, smeeta would only be useful for short-term matches while players with endurance builds would achieve drops with greater consistency.

    Ya the annoying thing is that I use other companions in my day to day life! I use Smeeta when I'm farming Resources/Affinity, but that's not the only thing I do in the game. I use Shade Prime in my Archon Hunt Missions (with a subsumed Dispensary and it's Augment) because it makes the mission so much easier. I use Deathcube or Djinn with Helstrum and some Synth mods to make low-efficiency builds viable with Equilibrium. Oxylus I use for fishing and gathering plants for Helminth/Grove Specters. Oh and of course Helios whenever I'm running a mission on unscanned enemies. Vulpaphylas of course get used a lot in my general Steel Path missions.

     

    I just don't think the problem is actually Charm. There are plenty of companions that have good abilities. But Charm is linked to grinding which takes by far more time than other content. I get done with an Archon Showdown in less than 20 minutes, but I'm running hours to get enough Void Traces to unlock a Prime weapon. Just because I'm using Smeeta more doesn't mean there's a disparity in Companion preference. The disparity is in the content itself!

    I hope the Smeeta Charm nerf isn't too severe. Realistically it's only +31.5% on average. (With Tek Enhance; thanks to TheKengineer for the math) That's certainly nice! But it's not game breaking. The reason Smeeta is used so often is--in my opinion--only because there aren't many better options.

    And I think Warframes themselves prove this. We have frames that can reliably double loot, but it's not like everyone plays only those frames. Why not? Because fun trumps greed every time. Greed requires a payoff to feel good, but fun is a payoff that feels good.

    So I think what we actually need is to make companions fun to use. Here are some brainstormed suggestions:

    • Carrier: Double the Vacuum size
    • Deathcube: Have its attack scale with enemy level
    • Diriga: Let it equip an actual sniper rifle that you can use as an alternate Primary Weapon
    • Djinn: It adds additional elemental damage to your secondary weapon (random at first but give it an augment that scans enemies and then finds their weakness)
    • Helios: Removes 1 Eximus Overguard every 3 seconds and its weapon easily pops Neutralizer Bubbles
    • Nautilus: Points in the direction of the nearest Objective or Disruption Mission Demolisher
    • Oxylus: Doubles the spawn rate of Open World Wildlife
    • Shade: Just add a zero to Ambush
    • Taxon: Doubles your shield-gate duration
    • Wyrm: Once per mission, can transform into a Cosmic Specter cloning your current loadout (reverts to Sentinel upon death)
    • Para MOA: Can hold and fire your Arch Gun
    • Lambeo MOA: Doubles Armor of defense objectives and increases you and your allies armor by 30%
    • Oloro MOA: Generates a special drop item every 30s that, when picked up by you or your allies, gives you a Perspicacity buff
    • Nychus MOA: You can ride on it; it will run at 1.5x your current Sprint Speed, and enemies get knocked down when you hit them
    • Bhaira Hound: Doubles drop chance of Riven Slivers
    • Dorma Hound: Doubles the drop chance of Blueprints
    • Hec Hound: Doubles the spawn chance of Ayatan Statues and Rare Crates
    • Huras: Have it stand on its hind legs and perform ninja melee moves; also have it imitate whatever Emote you're doing
    • Raksa: Have its howl cast Confusion (radiation proc) over a wide area, killing confused enemies restores your shields
    • Sahasa: Lower the chance, but have it dig specifically for rare resources
    • Sunika: When you get downed, Sunika teleports you to your nearest ally to be revived
    • Chesa: Pees on electronics, temporarily disabling Robot enemies (including bosses), and turning off Spy mission traps
    • Helminth Charger: You can install a Helminth Invigoration on it, your Warframe gains 25% of the effect of the Invigoration when equipped
    • Vizier Predesite: Release Spores that let you see enemies through walls, adds 5m punch-through on yours and allies Primary weapon
    • Pharaoh Predesite: Status duration on self halved and immune to Toxin status completely
    • Medjay Predesite: Assists in all Finishers, guaranteeing kill
    • Adarza: Make Cat's Eye always on
    • Smeeta: Just be yourself
    • Vasca: Goes invisible when you get downed
    • Sly Vulpaphyla: Any Mods the player has equipped that activate in air have double their effect 
    • Crescent Vulpaphyla: When devolved, doubles Puncture's Critical effect and damage
    • Panzer Vulpaphyla: (Pretty good already) Maybe just make Viral Quills an AoE attack?

    I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty sure I'd find a use for each and every one of these. It would easily make me more willing to vary my companion choices.

    Armor seems to be the most tame among the changes. The only noteworthy thing I saw was that a few frames are getting a big buff like Kullervo (probably the thick skin he's grown after everyone keeps getting his name wrong).

    It's pretty much all positives except for the frames that already had a very high survivability value. I also calculated the ranking, but I realize that survivability is a lot more nuanced than just EHP. Still, I was happy to see my precious Mag and Mag Prime jump the rankings.

    Good points! I went with initially available mods because there's no Prime/Archon/Umbral version of Redirection, but you've got me curious now how things shake out with different values. I need to update my spreadsheet anyway with the updated data, so I'll run some different scenarios when I do.

    I also calculated what I call "Naked EHP" (your EHP after your shields have been stripped) both with and without the three big mods. In that case Lavos was the only one losing "Naked EHP" when no mods were equipped, and Grendel was the only one losing "Naked EHP" when mods were equipped.

    But in conclusion, it's generally positive for all frames.

    And like seriously even 100k shields would be gone in probably less than 10 seconds of tanking Steel Path enemies. It would take a whole squad of Mag's spamming Crush a full minute to get 10 seconds worth of tanking.

    But you might be right! I'd just like to see it rather than theorize about it. I'm sure in normal Star Chart it would be ridiculous.

    You can't mod for health and armor, because the enemy damage values FAR exceed what you can achieve, so if you have 50hp or 5000hp makes literally no difference at all when approaching around enemy lvl 1500 and that is based upon SINGLE hits, not accounting for multiple hits. For the very same reason, shield stacking is beyond useless, even if they would buff the shield DR from 25% or 50% to 75% or more.     And this is what this boils down to:

The bottomline is though, all frames with no shield gimmick (speaking hildryn, protea, condem etc.) are stripped by 1 whole warframe mod slot, which are already VERY tight on every frame, because they need to slot in the new mod to revert shield gating to it's current form. 

    Now, before those andies roll in with their argument of "bla bla but only 0.1% of players play this content".

    That is still 0,1% of us that get royally screwed over for no reason at all. There is no compensation for the nerf, no alternate way to go around it, it's just straight up you lose one warframe mod slot across the board and they didn't even care to make the shield gate mode an exilus mod to soften the blow a little bit.

    Ya losing a Mod slot hurts. I'm a little excited about this because I use Mag(Prime), but a lot of my builds have low Ability Strength. I love using Polarize + Counter Pulse because it simultaneously CC's and restores shields, while only costing 30 energy with Fleeting Expertise. But it actually only restores 160 shields when Ability Strength is at 40%. That worked great with the Dragon Key trick, but I don't know how it's going to go now. I'll need to dedicate Mod space to Ability Strength now, so I'm basically losing a mod slot either way.

    In my case though at least I can get the strength I need to keep my playstyle through a combination of Arcanes and Archon Slots. The same can't be said for other players that use difference frames and builds. I can see this being a burden for some.

    Though I am looking forward to experimenting with 2.5 seconds of invulneratiliby.

    I think you're right. I've been dealing with Incarnons so much lately that I just intuitively thought that Archon Shards affected base values. But yeah I don't think anything changes.

    In any event, I'm kind of surprised to see that we're finally getting Attenuation changes. Kinda felt like they just forgot about it in lieu of Duviri. Would've been nice to see some small shard tweaks as Red & Blue shards are just generally kind of mid with their only usecases being to replace Primed Flow or hit some strength breakpoint.

    I play Mag so even one blue shard more than doubles my armor. With a TF I go from baseline 29.4% damage reduction to 53.8%. (With 5 it goes as high as 80.6% which makes Adaptability push it to the ridiculous level of 98.1%, but I like using the the other slots) So I love it! But I agree it's probably niche.

    The Attenuation changes shocked me as well. We just went past the 1-year anniversary of Archon Hunts three weeks ago.

    A brutally dutiful judge that was pressured to be lenient on the adolescent child of an Orokin Aristocrat. Unflappable against threats of death and dismemberment, she imposed the maximum sentence anyway. As she did, she had an eerie smile. For justice was her addiction, and to it and it alone she was helpless. The Orokin were enraged by her defiance. They sewed her mouth shut, threw her into a pit of Infested, and told her: "We will never again have to look at that arrogant smile of yours."
    As her flesh was being rend from her bones, her heart beat on through sheer force of will. The Infested, mindless and primitive though they were, caught sight of her fierce gaze and halted, retreating to the corners of the pit in primal fear. The judge pulled herself upright, snatched some bones and ground them into white powder. She then dipped her fingers into her wound, and with these two colors she painted a smile back on her face. Tearing a piece her her garment off, she hid her eyes from the Infested. As they cautiously approached, she waited motionless. But when they got within arm's length, she lifted her blindfold, grabbed hold of one, and said: "Got'cha."
    The Infested once again knew mortal dread--they all did--fleeing and scrambling over one another to escape the pit, to escape her. But the judge would not let go. The Infested continued to crawl over one another until finally one reached the top of the pit. But the judge would not let go. They crawled over, climbed up, and one by one exited the pit. The last one holding on to the others as it was drawn out of the pit, but it had a passenger. She was out! She could go get medical treatment. But the judge would not let go.
    The Orokin Aristocrat was at the prison, he was there to free his child and reverse the sentence of that judge, but just before the doors to the cell were opened, he heard screams echoing throughout the prison. He looked over and gasped as he saw her, the judge, with her painted smile. "You've failed!" He yelled. "My child is above your so called 'justice.'"

    So I have this dumb habit whenever I'm trying to reverse engineer someone else's code. I hate third-party libraries. I get their purpose, and I know that there's really no difference between a 3PL and a builtin, but I don't feel like I've really built anything if I'm just slapping together other people's work. (And I know there's some hypocrisy there because the whatever language I program in is itself other people's work; it's like that quote from Carl Sagan: "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.") But long story short, minGPT (while delightfully minimized) is using the Torch library, and I want my implementation to use only standard Python libraries. Only then will I feel like I actually understand GPT tech from the inside out. So now I'm looking at Torch and watching a bunch of math YouTube videos.

    And with that status update out of the way, it's time for Lotus Lines 931-940:

    In terms of gameplay, well… it’s not going to be as useful as you think it would. When was the last time you’ve Riplined enemies in a meaningful combat way? Every criticism about Ripline can be easily applied to a Parazon weapon

    Nobody uses it seriously, people want AoE pulls if they’re looking to yank enemies towards them, and Helminth can get the Nidus larva ability. Why grapple an enemy towards you when you can bullet-jump to them, or dive-kick from there if you really feel the need to. (There is a divekick mod, by the way: Gale Kick) Why do I need to spider-man around a map when falling has no penalty, and it’s easy enough to parkour around anyways. And that’s not factoring in other means of mobility like the Operator or mobility abilities.

    Interestingly, you're describing the Mag-scenario almost exactly. The #2-Held ability was only done in one cutscene, just to look flashy, and never done anywhere else. And it ALSO isn't as useful as people might have thought it should be. (I mean it probably would have been if they made it protect your from AoE attacks and status effects)

    So while your criticisms are valid, none of those reasons prevented this exact thing from happening the last time an ability was invented for a cutscene.

If I run a bunch of tight-corridor missions and then suddenly jump into a spacious mission, I may take for granted how long I can actually glide. And there have definitely been times when I ran out of aim glide just a few meters away from the ledge I was aiming for.

    Parazon's Hidden Ability

    Speaking of the Jackal fight, the Parazon clearly has a grappling hook ability. Between fight phases, the Tenno pursues the fleeing Jackal using a rather lengthy tether attached to their Parazon.

    Back in the day there was a cutscene of Mag using her second ability in a manner not available in actual gameplay. The story goes that the community begged consistency, and was given Mag's #2(Held) ability as a result. It was a great occasion where artistic license intersected with consumer expectation.

    But if we are to take the Mag ability as a precedent, then shouldn't the Parazon have the same treatment? Shouldn't we be able to tether to and pull ourselves toward heavy enemies and stationary objects at least the same distance as the radius of the Jackal's first arena room?

     

    "We don't have the button-space for that!" I hear you saying, but wait! This could work...

    • Available when the player is in air and has no remaining mid-air jumps
    • Cross-Hairs must be aimed at wall, object, or heavy enemy 35 meters or less away (radius of Jackal's room)
    • Parazon launches and pulls player toward target
    • Heavy enemies are determined by whether or not they can be affected by Mag's Pull
    • If hitting a lightweight enemy, the enemy will be pulled a short distance and the Parazon will snap back to you
    • When hitting a wall/object, wall-latch or wall-jump become available at appropriate proximity
    • When hitting a heavy enemy, can slide to turn it into a slide-kick with triple damage (a "headshot multiplier" of slide-kicks)

    So it wouldn't require any extra button mappings, just an added option when you're out of jumps.

     

    "We already have Valkyr's Rip Line!" I hear you now saying, but wait again!

    • Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Valkyr user her Parazon like everyone else in the Jackal fight cutscene?
    • Rip Line's lvl4 base range is 75 meters
    • Mag's passive is an inferior Vacuum or Fetch. Clearly the existence of something similar does not mean anything significant.

    So as you can see, there is every reason in the world to add this already-canonical Parazon ability into the game itself.

     

    I believe you will see the correctness of my arguments and do the noble thing. I'm not asking you to live up to my expectations; I'm simply expecting that you will live up to very same standards you've already proven you strive toward time and time again.     I want to try it. Not the voice replication at this point, but I want to try writing a text-based AI to see what happens if I combine all of the Lotus' real lines with the 1000 lines I plan on finishing. I'm reading through minGPT's code as an educational starting point and once I get familiar with how it runs then I'll see what's been improved in the fork (nanoGPT). From there I'll either write one from scratch or tweak that existing code to work with my dataset. The determining factor will be how the training works. I assume AI training is set up as a generalist, but I'd like to have some control over the preferences beyond just feeding it more data; I don't have much data to work with so I might want to build some shortcuts that let me explicitly prioritize Lotus-like mannerisms. I wish I had some project at work that needs machine learning so I could use this as a skill-building project and get paid for it...

    But with that, it's time for more Lotus Lines! Let's go with 921-930:

    Universal Vacuum, and a New Passive for Mag

    Just thought of another Passive option that I'd like for Mag that still goes along with her current Vacuum theme:

    • Loot dropped Crates/Enemies destroyed by Mag are automatically retrieved by all squad members in Affinity Range regardless of distance

    And before you go thinking that this would cause the Greedy Pull scandal all over again, The Inactivity Penalty would still behave just like normal, and the squad wouldn't automatically pick up redundant loot like from Desecrate.

    Incarnon Tigris or consequences.

    I'd be all for an Incarnon for Tigris! I'm a Mag main (only) and the Tigris (Prime/Sancti) have very good synergy with her. The only things that can live inside a Tigris-charged Death Bubble for more than a few seconds is a high level Steel Path enemy with immunity to Armor-Stripping (so like <1% of the enemies you're going to face).

    Something I love about the Tigris is it's double-tap fire mode, so I'd love to see the Incarnon preserve that. Maybe something like a two-stage attack:

    • Stage 1 (Held-Down): A Magnetic Hit-Scan Grouping Attack
      • Enemy hit will become magnetized and attract enemies within 6m
      • Corpse retains attraction
      • Lasts for 10 seconds
    • Stage 2 (Released): Impact/Puncture Projectile Rail Gun Attack
      • Fires a spike that will orbit a magnetized enemy if it passes within 3m
      • Infinite Body Punch-Through, so it will become a meat grinder
      • Lasts as long as the magnetization on the enemy it is orbiting

    But really anything I'd be game for. The Incarnon perks increase a weapon's base stats as well so I'd love it regardless of what the Incarnon Mode did.

    I'm on console so I haven't had any problems, but it looks like you'll need to wait for Xsolla to get back with you. (DE isn't going to be able to do anything about it even if they wanted to, and I'm sure they do want to because you're trying to give them money)

    Occasionally I wonder what a good length for Lotus lines should be I've decided for it to be one or two lines on my screen, but that's completely subjective. My resolution, the browser's zoom level, font size, and so on were all factors I didn't consider before making the two-lines rule. That said, I've been paying attention to other dialogue that is currently in Warframe. I'm pretty sure my two-lines rule is fine. And with that! Lotus Lines 911-920:

    • "Okay I'll level with you, the real reason I want you to extract when The Grustrag Three show up has nothing to do with their threat level. They're just so mean to you! I don't want you to get your feelings hurt! Bullets may wound the body, but bullying wounds the heart."
    • "One thing that has been difficult living at the Dojo is ordering food. Sometimes I get cravings. Then again, maybe that's how Ballas found me the last time..."
    • "That's not how I remember that Warframe looking." ... "Huh? What do you mean you changed your 'skin!?' What does that mean!? Is that safe?"
    • "I could have sworn there was a Warframe back in the Old War with the ability to go through walls, but we haven't seen anything like that again. If only I could remember more about her then maybe we could find her again..."

    Warframe mod suggestion

    There are many times when I've wanted some extra mod space and wished I could put at least one of my Augments in the Exilus slot. Some Augments actually are Exilus mods like Repair Dispensary. It would be nice if all mods got the same treatment.

    Although, if we're speaking "same treatment" then augment mods themselves come under fire. Some Warframes have gotten full reworks while others get Augments. The common criticism is that it's not really an upgrade because it takes away a very valuable mod slot (which is not the case for frames that get enhanced by rework).

    It would be nice if Augments were just unlockable features that could be toggled on and off. Sort of like how you can find widgets that enhance your drill and scanner (those do not have an option to deactivate however). It still wouldn't be as good as a rework because it wouldn't come out of the box, but that wouldn't matter once you finally get them.

    Universal Vacuum, and a New Passive for Mag

    I ended up getting to build/buy some more Mag Primes (I now have 4) and I didn't want them to go to waste, so I've been making Loadouts and Archon Shard specializations, trying to experiment with different play styles. And this diversification has got me thinking once again on Mag's only flaw: Her useless passive. (I'm sorry for saying you have a flaw, Mag) So I thought I should revisit this idea and take into account some Warframe news and future plans. (As well as add a few more Passive ideas)

    1. ALL elemental frames should have this by default. Mag's 2 redirects energy. That means she could strip the event horizon off of a black hole and make a naked singularity, rewriting reality itself. NO magnetic attack should have ANY effect on her.
    2. This still seems like the most sensible one. It would be very valuable for gathering resources and be a unique ability no other frame offers.
    3. I'd love this for Zariman missions and Ayatan farming. I don't think it would be OP to have at least one frame help with pickups since we have a few loot dup frames.
    4. This one is N/A now because it sounds like they're trying to implement this universally (probably to help with Mobile)
    5. This is basically an Arcane and would help with survivability especially early game when you don't have the energy to spam abilities.
    6. This would be an upgrade of Item#1, but I could see this being too hard for new players to understand. ("Why do some attacks give me energy?")
    7. Similar to an existing Mod so never mind about this one.
    8. I think this would be a great addition. Currently there's not much incentive to play Melee-Mag, but her Pull actually makes ground finishers possible.
    9. Maybe OP, but a strong toxin enemy can wipe Mag out very fast. I feel like this would complete her kit.
    10. I feel like if Mag were designed today then her Passive would be something like this.

    Okay now I want to add some more ideas for her Passive now that I've got to have some fun with other styles:

    • Every 100 Overshield points add +0.1x Sprint Speed
    • All abilities can be charged by holding before casting, increasing Ability Strength by +5% every second (this would get rid of her #2's hold ability)
    • Natural vacuum starts at 8m but is affected by Ability Range and shared with Squad members in Affinity Range
    • Sliding is frictionless and generates 1 energy/meter
    • No limit to her OverShields
    • Touching an enemy has a 50% chance of sticking current negative statuses to enemy, clearing them from Mag
    • Mag gets an extra mid-air jump every time she casts an ability while in air
    • Picking up shrapnel has a 0.1% chance of obtaining a rare resource
    • Base armor scales with Ability Strength
    • Every 1 point of Energy spent on Abilities adds +0.1x to next Primary Weapon attack (max 20x)

     

    I'd also like to point out that if DE uses one of these ideas then I will personally forgive them for putting an innocent goat under the Jackal.

    I saw an AI-generated narrator imitating the voice of David Attenborough and it was very convincing. I wonder how much data you need to convincingly simulate a voice through AI. I'm a programmer by trade, and I've even created websites (Django/Postgres on AWS). I've been thinking what my next project should be after I finish 1000 Lotus Lines, and after hearing the AI voice I couldn't help but wonder: "Wouldn't it be cool to just make the Lotus Lines a reality?" I'll look into the scope. The most I'd be willing to dedicate to this would be like $12 a year for maintaining a domain. I'm not sure if it's possible to run an interactive AI bot on free-tier web hosting services. I guess for legal reasons I'd also need to hire a voice-alike on Fiverr to generate Lotus-esque sound clips to feed into the AI; it would be ethically (and likely one day legally) wrong to use DE's actual sound data. I can already see the scope getting too large...
    ...But it would be cool...
    Anyway, I still need to get done with the 1000 Lotus Lines. So let's get back to it with 901-910:

    • "If you ever get the Peculiar Growth Mod and a Riven Mod that reduces a weapon's attack to zero, then please let me know. There are some things I've been dying to try."
