Sentients drop a shiny thing. What do?

Killed a sentient last night, and it dropped something that looked like it might have been a staff.

It shimmers like a breakable grate does.. but you can't interact with it.
Am I missing something?

Were these Lua Sentients? You can shoot their weapons off. They should look roughly staff shaped.

it's just part of their body that you knocked off

Yes.

Never figured out how to link pictures on here, so didn't bother to take one.
What you mentioned is certainly what I saw.

Thought it was odd that it shimmered like a breakable.
Suppose it just does that because it can be broken free.

It's not really for us.  You will notice the Sentients on Lua are modular, if they lose an arm they can share or pick up an allies.  They shimmer because technically they are pickup, the same way as datamasses etc., but only for the Sentients.

Good to know. Was kind of wondering that after hearing it.

I did that quest back when it launched in game, and have pretty much intentionally ignores sentients ever since.
These are the little details I've missed as a result.
