Mobile Extractors in Railjacks

Recommended Posts

On the mobile phone app, we can send out extractors to reap small quantities of resources while we're away from the main game.

In the Railjack, I'd like to see those extractors equipped and strapped to the internal walls somewhere near the Foundry or Reliquary; when we're inside the railjack mission, we could opt to send out either 1 or 4 extractors to seek and harvest drops, crates and micro-asteroids with a basic secondary-type weapon and vacuum, then return resources to the Railjack. They'd also be vulnerable to enemy fire, so there's some risk.

This idea would make use of our current ability to make as many excavators as we like, and restock the drones in the Railjack in Drydock, because there's the risk of losing the extractors during a mission and we'd have to make more to replace them. The excavators being present in a Railjack mission help to farm more resources faster. I want this idea implemented because most players I know find post-mission farming extra grind deadly boring, so I think the assistance from drones like these might add an element of thrill even if it's a weak one. Remember, even if a mission is over, there's still a chance of getting hit by cannon batteries scattered amongst the asteroids and ramsleds deploying as we pass by a facility, so the extractors would still be at risk (and much greater risk than we are, as they would be much weaker with much less armour, shield and health). We'd still have to escort the drones with our Railjack or Archwing to make sure they stay alive as they work. If they get hit twice by an enemy, however weak the enemy's offence might be, the extractor would pop and we'd lose any resources it might be carrying as well as the extractor. This risk is the price we'd pay for automated drone assistance during post-mission farming.

Also, if you're nuts enough, you should be able to deploy the extractor drones during mission too! Of course, two hits and they would still pop, but if you want to try defending one as it works while trying to complete a mission, go ahead. Doing this during a Veil, Saturn or Earth Proxima mission might be a fun toy for some of you out there. I guess, in theory, the extracted resources might be of higher value or quantities while doing this during mission as a measure of risk vs. reward? 🙂

What do you think?

It sounds alright to me. Anything to get more resources. Except that if it gets implemented, it’s gonna need resources to build so if it gets destroyed too early, you’ll be losing more resources than gaining.

Regarding this though, I’m not sure if players still hang around after all the objectives have been completed. In my runs, I don’t do that. In the public runs that I join, they don’t seem to do that either.

I think it's more common in early RJ when you have nothing (and also before they bumped up the resource collection). If you're grinding veil for intrinsics, you're likely to get enough of what you need just through the standard pew pew. Even just having a 24 hour resource booster, goto Earth Proxima solo, smack on battering ram and chill. You'll get a lot of what you need in a 10 minute run, rinse and repeat. I'm sure there's resources that only drop in veil or saturn but the only thing I've ever been short of is asterite.

Also, so many dirac... it's basically worthless once you've upped all your avionics.

Totally! I remember my early railjack days where I’m constantly short of resources like Titanium and Asterite. If there was a drone to help farm these things, that would’ve been a great help!

And yes, I’m sitting on like 300k Diracs now coz there’s nothing left for me to upgrade.

Same. I think people don't do the post-mission farm BECAUSE it's boring.

New or Experienced, I'd rather rinse the mission on repeat and get the 1500 Copernics reward than trying to fill up the forge @ 200 per cycle... but if there were drones to bump up the forge cycling, then it would be worth hanging around post mission as the Devs seem to have intended. Normally, I'm at one end of the map and I don't seem to bother going to the other end of the asteroid belt any more. It's a shame because they're awesome graphics and a lot of effort went into it... and I don't use it.
