Dojo doesn't allow me to build a connector into an area with nothing in it

As the title says, the Dojo doesn't allow me to build a connector into an area with nothing in it, stating the reason "there is not enough room". I haven't the slightest clue what that is supposed to mean, considering there is nothing there. Why is this blocked?

Clearly, there is room. Why is there not? 

I'm sorry for ading the Warframes tag, even though it's clearly not Warframes, but there is no Dojo tag so I'm a bit uncertain of what else to do to get answers.

This has happened to me when theres a large room beneath it blocking it. Do you have rooms on other levels which could be interfering?

rooms like the inspiration hall or the dry dock can block rooms beneath and above them, that might be the cause

As the others have said, rooms above and/or below might be the issue. I hope at some point that DE can make the message more clear when this happens and actually tell you what its hitting.
