Why are there only missions for AoE?

I feel this issue is intrinsically linked to the type of game Warframe is.

In cases like exterminate, the ideal setup kills as many enemies in as little time as possible, so you're never going to get away from the aoe there.

In cases like assassination, grand bosses, and capture, aoe is as useful as the extra enemies are threatening. In capture, the fastest method is a quick in and out, only paying attention to the target, but if the extra enemies are a threat (like in Profit-Taker,) then the best way to eliminate them is an aoe effect (in the case of pt, not letting the stronger enemies spawn helps, but doesn't clear out all threats.)

I feel that this isn't a problem until one of two things is true: the actual best way to deal with more single target missions like capture and assassinate is an aoe weapon, or aoe is so powerful you can easily leave the game running without paying any attention. Capture/assasinate should be best with faster movement and more targeted damage, while there should be some restrictions on aoe that makes it more involved than finding the right corner to spam shoot.

In both cases, the current aoe meta has issues.

Eidolon Hunting, and Assassination in Jackal and Lephantis are single target missions, at least in terms of the main topic of the mission, but not in terms of the quantity of the missions that can change the AoE meta of the game as a whole.
This topic was posted in Missions & Levels from the perspective that the problem with the AoE meta is not the AoE weapons themselves, but the missions that are available (mostly for AoE and AoE friendly).

Still, if we are talking about weapon performance, we need to limit ourselves to non-AoE weapons with high enough performance to be compared to KUVA ZARR, etc. (The fact that there are few strong non-AoE weapons may magnify the problem, but weak weapons, both AoE and non-AoE, are weak no matter what.)
And we are talking with the understanding that "if we compare the highest performing weapons against each other, non-AoE weapons generate higher DPS against single enemies than AoE weapons".
(For example, we recognize that PHENMOR after Incarnon Transmutation is better than KUVA ZARR at taking down a small number of enemies. However, Incarnon Transmutation takes a long time, so it is hard to say that it is suitable for Capture.)

Mobile Defense: This used to be a mission for CC, but now CC is unreliable, so it is reasonable to use AoE to kill Eximus with each large number of enemies that become obstacles.
Hijack: CC is usually fine, but you should have AoE because Eximus is scary and Sorties cannot use their abilities.
Orokin Sabotage:Same as Mobile Defense and Assassination. AoE should be used against large numbers of enemies.

So use CC with single target for Eximus units.

Spy, Rescue, Defection, Reactor Sabotage, Hive: You don't have to kill the enemies, but the large number of enemies makes it safer to have AoE.
Sealab Sabotage:Same as Mobile Defense and Assassination. AoE should be used against large numbers of enemies.

You are saying it yourself, you do not have to kill enemies. You are complaining for the sake of complaining. I am convinced skipping enemies is the most common tactic for speed running those.

Disruption: Only a few enemies need to be defeated, but there are a large number of cronies, so an AoE makes it safer.

That is subjective if you don't do short runs. Once you hit a certain thresh hold the Demos will be too tanky for quick kills with AoE. Unless you consider failing still to be within definition of safe.  But yes, most players are probably safer if they combine AoE with single target weapons.

Interception: No matter how you play it, you will have to kill everyone in the end, so you should also prepare AoE.

You do not have to kill everyone in the end. It will be faster if you do though.

Overall, AoE will make missions easier/faster. You still benefit from single target damage. You also forgot to mention bosses like Tridolons and Orb Mothers where single target is beneficial.
