While I'm pretty sure your in-game accounts and Gamertags are hosted/ supported by Microsoft, the forums are a different case. Your account here is a separate extension of your XBL Account (that is why you can be logged into the forums regardless if Microsoft's servers are down), and I do not know if there is a system in place to adjust your name here, should you change it, or if it would even let you log-in properly after doing so. Please note that you can only change your Gamertag once for free on xbox.com. You will still be able to log into the Forums just the same as before!
