  1. I posted a similar post 2 years ago and nothing has happened since then.

The best solution I've seen so far is: The center vote is an abstain vote.
So if you definitely want to stay no matter what, you go Right.

If you definitely want to leave no matter what, you go Left.

If you don't mind staying but don't want to be the only one that does you go Center.

That way, if 2 or more go center, they stay, but if everyone goes left and one person is center, you all leave.

Please vote this up if you agree with me that this is the best solution.

  2. IMHO, You failed to identify the problem.

Many people try Warframe but quit.
    The problem is player retention.

You claim that it is the lack of F2P elements but I have a lot of friends that have lots of Platinum in Warframe and have never spent a penny.

Player retention can be boiled down to 3 reasons that players leave.

    1.  Steep learning curve - Although League of Legends (the game you used for comparison) is difficult to master, it is quite easy to learn.  Warframe has such a bad tutorial, confusing UI, and so many hidden features with no introductory tutorial to them, and no clear objective or progression.  A few of my friends left the game because of this.

    2.  Fun is not the Goal - Unless you like the CCG element, or the RNG based farming, Warframe is unappealing.  I've had friends try it and tell me that it feels like a job.  A cooperative job.  There is little story-driven content, and collecting all of the Warframes, weapons, and gear is a skinner-box approach to gaming.  The fun mechanics is really the only thing that makes the farming fun, but repeating the same 8 mission types gets old for many people quite quickly.  Also, there is a lack of end-game content.  All of that RNG farming would make sense if there was end-game content to use it on.  But all of that end-game content is just another RNG farming experience.

    3.  High Buy-in price - Once you actually learn the game, you will quickly realize how far behind you are all of the early members.
Forget about ever getting an Excalibur Prime, Event mods, all those alerts and potatoes that you missed over the years, arcane helmets, retired gear... etc.
Not to mention starting your mod collection, and leveling them all up, took so much cash, resources, and time to collect fusion cores.
Possible solutions to this might be a specter mechanic, allowing older players to allow newer players to take control of their specters so they can jump into the game and not worry about modding right off the bat.

There is actually a strong 4th reason that players leave the game, and that is it's unusual aesthetic that most vet players love and find charming.

Players need to be slowly brought into this weird aesthetic.  That ugly Vor and Grineer that we see at the beginning throw new players off.  The strange appearance of the Warframe and the early tilesets are unappealing to new players.  You need to slowly lower your audience into the rabbit-hole of weirdness.  I love the way that the engine looks and all of that unique aesthetic, but it does take getting used to.

And of course the bugs, crashes, P2P hosting, grouping options, horrible trade system... etc all make newer players, that are used to better QoL options, uneasy.

    *** My Frustration ***

I have spent a lot of time finding new players in Warframe, and helping them get into the game.  I helped them to power level a bit, so they could get over that initial hump.  I have introduced them to vault runs, syndicates, relays, void missions, Derelict missions, lephantis ... etc.  I have answered all their questions and given them some prime parts, and helped them to farm their first new frame.  I helped them farm plastids.... plastids!!!
After doing all of these redundant runs with them, they lose interest, leave the game, and all of the time I have spent helping them to build their account goes to waste.
My help, in essence, helps these new players overcome reasons 1 and 3, but they leave the game because of 2.  This is something that I cannot help them with.

  3. At first I really loved this idea, until I realized how cluttered the relays would become, and how Tenno would fight over prime selling real-estate (location location location).
I'd rather just get an auction house mechanic that integrates into a relay-room.

Tenno would have to gift items to the AH with sale conditions, and go back to the AH (or through the inbox system) collect their item/cash.

It is a dirty tactic, but many MMO's take a sinkhole platinum cut/percentage on AH sales.  This ensures that the developing team makes real money on each AH purchase/sale.

As it is, there is a platinum saturation in the Trade community.  This saturation will only serve to drive up prices.

  4. There are 2 types of tank in video games.

    1. CC tank that takes aggro from the team. (taunt)

    2. Survival tanks that are the last ones standing.

As of yet, there is no CC tank in Warframe, so we are left discussing the different survival tanks.

Loki could be considered a tank (in this light) because of his invisibility but traditionally a tank needs to be able to take damage without dying.

Survival Tanks include:  Valkyr's invincibility, Frost's globe, Trinity's link and heal, Rhino's iron skin, Chroma's high health+armor potential, Saryn's molt+augment, Mirage's hall of mirrors and dark eclipse, Limbo's rift walk (but he cant deal damage) ... etc.

Survival Tanks also traditionally have some kind of Tenacity to resist crowd control effects.  CC resistant frames include: Valkyr, Trinity, Rhino (perhaps Limbo)

If there was a Taunt aggro mechanic and a frame were able to mitigate damage with aggro, this would be a new mechanic for Warframe.  Perhaps a Rhino Roar could be augmented in this way, or even a Trinity Link?

Finally, we have to differentiate between Tanks and Melee.  Tanks make good melee because of their survivability, however there are other great melee frames that are not tanks.
Excalibur is obvious with his recent projectile melee, and his radial blind.
Banshee is actually a great melee frame (not many people know this).  Her silence allows her to get in close reliably (automatically stunning the enemy).
Volt's shocking speed augment allows for him to stun an enemy once he enters melee range and have a melee buff at the same time.
Loki and Ash both have great melee capabilities, and ash's teleport opens him up to quick finishers and closes the gap quickly.

Vauban's Bastile makes him ideal for melee killing sprees
Mag's pull, allows her to easily apply finishers to downed opponents.
Slow Nova is also very decent at melee because she is able to circle the enemy faster than it can turn to face her.  When her slow is active she can also reliably enter melee range without a high risk of taking any damage.

  5. Any ability that performs a numerical value (by definition) does not scale.

Abilities that do scale are hard CC abilities like: Vauban, Loki disarm, Nyx chaos, slow Nova, Nekros terror, excal blind, mirage blind.. etc.

Abilities that scale with increasing enemy stats like: Nyx, Trinity EV, Nekros spawns.. etc.
Abilities that are absolute such as:  Limbo, Valkyr invincibility ... etc.

Many of the replies are correct that nobody needs to go past wave 40, however, about 4 devstreams ago, Scott said that rewards would progressively give better drop chances at higher waves.  This has not yet been implemented, and he may have forgotten about this, but I would never bring a Mesa past wave 40.

My best defense group has always been, frost (casting every 6 seconds globe), loki disarm, vauban hard CC, trinity for energy and to kill ammo soaking targets with her 1, 2 combo.  This team comp is like an energizer battery slogan.

  6. Mesa is OP in low level missions yes.

But don't forget how quickly Mesa's damage drops off. If you want to make it past wave 35 in a T4 Defense, then you probably should not be taking Mesa, but if you want to make it to wave 35 quickly, then Mesa is the way to go. So far, the highest I've made it (After giving up of boredom) is to wave 115 and the team consisted of Vauban, Trinity, Loki and Limbo.

Mesa is honestly quite a weak frame that is able to exploit through low level enemies but is bad in endgame content.

  7. Has anyone suggested making Iron Skin work something akin to Nullifier bubbles? Obviously without the regeneration (or maybe with? Eh? Eh??), but a slightly modified version of the Nullifier's damage calculation would make Iron Skin useful equally useful at high levels as it is at low levels. A level 30 Nullifier drops just as quickly as a level 100.

It's a complicated algorithm, so look here:

    http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Nullifier_Crewman

Actually not that bad an idea,

Could strength mods increase the number of hits?

  8. Thanks for the update,

Rhino charge is a much needed change,

But Iron Skin also needs to be looked at.  We need, at the very least, to be able to recast it and fill it back up.  And perhaps look at a few seconds of invulnerability on cast.

Roar changes sound like a buff, but it would be nice to be able to recast it for those that were not in the radius.  When the duration was shorter, it did not matter if you missed a few party members, you would just get them on the next re-cast, but now that the duration is longer it matters a lot more if you miss someone.

Stomp Duration question, is there a minimum duration for those that are using efficiency builds?

Again the problem with using a long duration on stomp is that it cannot be recast until "all the bodies hit the floor".

  9. You need to learn how to use her.

Try using her in tandem with loki's radial disarm and nova.

She might be underwhelming in lower level missions but her main abilities scale into endgame, so you will not see her utility drop off, quite the opposite; it is precisely when the enemies start to get harder that you will see her benefit.

  10. If this happens I would imagine that it would cost something other than a forma, perhaps an augment potato "Orokin amplifier" and make it green.

    ()-()

     \_/

We might even need to bind the augments into helmets or something

  11. Strun Wraith, Boar Prime, Hek, Drakgoon, Phage (which I don't count)...

That's about 50% of the primary shotgun category that doesn't suck.

If we're including secondary shotguns, you could always use the excellent Mara Detron, or the Brakk if you want something infinitely better. The Sweeper is one of the best sentinel weapons as well.

No one gives the Drakgoon any love, despite the fact that it easily matches the Boltor Prime's DPS. The mechanics are a bit finicky, which makes it not quite as dependable as the Rhinoob's weapon of choice, though.

Was gonna say, the two best recent ones are the Drakgoon and the Kohm.

And that syndicate mod for the Hek makes it like a new gun.

  12. IMO: most of the better augments are the ones that add utility to abilities so maybe we shouldn't be looking at making a sword that is better at killing things but rather one that makes survival easier or killing more rewarding.

    LIke:

If you cut enemies in half with exalted blade both halves drop loot.

    killed enemies drop health orbs.

Enemies killed by finishers while exalted blade is out explode in a radial javelin! (give people a reason to cast radial blind)

    10, 11, 12

The last one is the best idea yet (imo)

That would be an insane animation, radial javelins bursting out from the victim's corpse and impaling nearby enemies as excalibur pulls his sword out from him.

  13. k guess we could solve the spam issue with energy cost, maybe like 3 energy per wave( just as 3 energy per second for the skill) for every wave thrown when not hitting anyone in melee range with the exalted blade sword (not the wave). but then we'd need the spin attack back. i for one, couldn't see myself going in melee range without spamming the blades just solely because the spin attack is restricted. plzzz give us spin attack on EB DE!!

we should get a 3 energy cost for every 15 hits (should be tested) parried too. just to prevent perma facetanking.

    Oh please no!

Excal is fine, he's great, and actually fun to play!

The hype will die, but we are left with a great frame.  Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

You want to start charging energy for melee?  You'll ruin the frame, he won't be fun to play anymore.  Does mesa cost energy for each bullet he shoots?

  14. They have so many different possibilities to Augment this ability I don't know if changing the stance and weapon is the one to go for.

    1.  Faster projectile speed

    2.  Larger projectiles

    3.  Increasing the range on the slide blind to match radial blind

    4.  Allowing you to use guns but still pull out the weapon and projectile when you push your melee button

    5.  2 or 3 Spread projectiles on each attack (or adds a shotgun of javelins with melee attacks)

    6.  Melee attack speed increase while active

    7.  Higher auto-deflection chance against bullets

    8.  Weapon stats match your melee weapon stats

    9.  Super Sayan mode, added visuals (joke)

    10. etc
