@Plaxed What does it mean "can't install"? https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu doesn't work?

I get this on sudo apt-add-repository https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/

18.10 released very recently, so I'd expect WinHQ to update the repos soon.

You *can* try to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and replace `deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ cosmic main` with `deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ bionic main`.

Or you can try to build from source.

Hmm...

I did everything according to instructions but when I try to launch it from steam it runs for a second and then immediately closes. I can't even see the launcher or any kind of message, it just stops and steam no longer detects it running.

I did the other way with Lutris and it's working absolutely fantastically! ❤️❤️❤️

@Plaxed cool! How did you manage to install Wine?

For Ubuntu 18.10: https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

Add the repository:

wget -nc https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Emulators:/Wine:/Debian/Ubuntu_18.10_standard/Release.key
sudo apt-key add Release.key
sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Emulators:/Wine:/Debian/Ubuntu_18.10_standard ./'

Looks like some bad news on the linux front

Orb Vallis causes causes 32bit warframe to choke and die which means we have to run 64bit warframe which chokes and dies on audio due to 64bit Xaudio2_7 bugs in WINE/Proton. I cant hang out in Orb Vallis for very long before CTD and cant even enter it in 32bit Warframe

I have this error when i try to run warframe:

/path/to/Steam/steamapps/common/Warframe/Tools/Launcher.sh: line 167: /path/to/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/proton: No such file or directory

I navigate to the directory and the file proton doesn't exist. what should i do?

dota 2, Robocraft and Transmissions: Element 120

None of those use proton.

P.S. To be clear, proton is used when there's no native Linux port available (indicated by 'steam' logo above the price tag/play now button in the store page).

I tried with games can run in proton: Castlevania Lords of shadow 1-2 and The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

Well... there is another problem, not with warframe but with proton.

Sorry if my english is kinda weird. My languaje is Spanish

  • 2 weeks later...

I took the plunge and moved over to Manjaro and Xfce and couldn't be happier with the OS and every thing. Just having issues with the launcher via winesteam/lutris

I will check out the proton option and see if it works for me.

But +1 for a little bit of linux love from the dev's. Even just some help with issues like this would be awesome.

Steam Play results in that never ending loop that OP is about. It would be really nice of them to fix it. Other workarounds seem to work but I get really low fps for some reason since the latest update. I would love to check out if it works fine with steam but it just loops… 😞
