Kazriyal Posted November 12, 2020 Share Posted November 12, 2020 As the title says previously said (changed with edit on 25/01/2021), enemy weapons with punchthrough capability bypass melee blocking and defensive abilities like Garuda's Dread Mirror and Zephyr's Turbulence. For when melee blocking the combo counter goes up and the block animation plays, as if the shot was blocked but damage is still taken, and arcanes that would trigger on being damaged still trigger. Garuda's mirror also absorbs the damage value into the dread heart, but I still take damage and arcanes still trigger. Zephyr's turbulence does not deflect the projectile aside until after it has used up its punchthrough distance (tested on the enemies that shoot golden projectiles in corpus ship tileset, with 6m radius it punched through, with 12m it traveled partway through then deflected while other projectiles were deflected further out). This wouldn't be a problem if enemies with punchthrough were few and far between, but they are becoming a lot more common (plenty of exo grineer have punchthrough on their weapons, and in any high-level corpus ship tileset there are always a few enemies with punchthrough shooting you, to the point that in sorties/steel path relying on the block will get you killed in seconds) and seems to be a growing trend. It is especially concerning with Garuda's mirror, since the whole point of having the shield is to protect her (it was even stretched lower a few hotfixes ago so it would block shots aimed at Garuda's feet, which weighs against the shield being a side benefit of a charging mechanism for the explosive heart). rainy Posted January 25, 2021 Share Posted January 25, 2021 After some testing, I can confirm this issue. Any punch-through attacks completely ignore the mirror and proceed to deal damage. Some enemies include: Terra Manker (Fluctus) Terra Jailer (fake Convectrix, actually explosive projectile) Terra Sniper Crewman (Opticor) Explosions such as the Bombard are properly blocked. Turbulence properly deflects the above attacks, unless the Jailer's thing explodes from the floor. Melee blocks fail to block the above enemies most of the time. Sometimes the initial damage is blocked but status procs are inflicted anyways, dealing damage. Unfortunately standard for anything related to Garuda, issues tragically tend to have a 6-month delay before being noticed. However, the title is wrong. Garuda's 1 ability is not broken, everything else about it functions as intended, it just doesn't block punch-through attacks, and you should re-title to "Dread Mirror doesn't block Punch-through attacks". Every other explosion I tested bypassed the shield. The only thing would be if people were certain Dread Mirror blocked punch-through originally, but otherwise we can go with the precedent of Electric Shield and say this also makes sense. Kazriyal Posted March 15, 2021 Author Share Posted March 15, 2021 Recently did a steel path mission on corpus ship tileset with Garuda. The enemy with punchthrough weapon is the Juno Elite Crewman, the #1 most common enemy type on that tileset above level 30. So it is not a few rare enemy types like bombard or opticor-using crewman, where it would maybe be understandable since they can be avoided/prioritized. But it is the most common enemy type on the tileset. Garuda is unplayable on this tileset, of which there are 25 missions. The most common corpus tileset (25 ship, 17 outpost, 12 gas city 12 ice planet). This is a bug with the ability, and should be fixed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
