Why You Need To Stop Complaining About Data/rewards Not Being Saved

This thread is mostly being created due to an issue that has been harassing warframes servers lately since U13

while my threads title is hostile its mainly to sort of funnel down the amount of unwarranted hate on DE as of late for issues that arnt their fault. in fact if DE sees fit id like this thread Pinned and locked until the issues have subsided or been blocked.

 

 

If you have had issues with the following please do not create a thread about your issue:

 

Login issues

incorrect login info message while using correct info

connectivity issues

Chat acting like its on crack or roids

End of mission rewards not saving

connectivity issues.

 

Why should you not create a thread about these issues?

Currently warframe is under attack by someone or some people who are DDoS ing the warframe servers and the site server.

 

What is a DDoS attack?

an apt question here is some basic info on what it is and how it works as well as a crude example.

 

In computing, a denial-of-service (DoS) or distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of efforts to temporarily or indefinitely interrupt or suspend services of a host connected to the Internet. As clarification, DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are sent by two or more persons, or bots. (See botnet) DoS (Denial of Service) attacks are sent by one person or system.

Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers. DoS threats are also common in business,^[1] and are sometimes responsible for website attacks.^[2] This technique has now seen extensive use in certain games, used by server owners, or disgruntled competitors on games, such as server owners' popular Minecraft servers. Increasingly, DoS attacks have also been used as a form of resistance. Richard Stallman has stated that DoS is a form of 'Internet Street Protests’.^[3] The term is generally used relating to computer networks, but is not limited to this field; for example, it is also used in reference to CPU resource management.^[4]

One common method of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, so much so that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered essentially unavailable. Such attacks usually lead to a server overload. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.

 

 

a crude example: lets say warframe is a DJ at a popular club... everyone can request a song and dance to it so long as they wait their turn in line. well 1 person in line wants to ruin everyones fun time at the club and when he reaches the front to make a request.... he/she requests way more songs then the DJ can handle.... during this time no one else in line is able to request and listen to their song. this problem continues until either the person gets sick of requesting songs or until the DJ "quits" out of frustration.

 

(I cant vouch for the accuracy or the effectiveness of this example... if someone has a better one please feel free to post it, but for now it gets the point across)

 

 

Why is warframe under attack with DDoS?

many are speculating that a few from a community of the losing games in the mmobomb f2p showdown (that warframe barely won) was angered over losing to warframe and is attacking the servers via DDoS in response to the loss. however there has yet to be substantial proof of this theory and only remains viable do to the method of attack fitting the motive.

 

the only thing we know for sure is. someone REALLY HATES warframe and doesn't want anyone playing it.

 

What do I need to worry about losing from this attack?

fortunately you shouldn't lose any information or things you earned before  the attacks started. however anything during the attack is fair game as there is no guarantee the data from even a short missions with few rewards will be saved.

 

your financial information such as credit card info should also be safe as the goal really isn't to steal from warframes users but rather keep its users from playing it.

 

What about my boosters/resources with half lifes (argon)/ and other time based purchased items?

 

DE has made it very clear that people who have had issues with boosters namely will be accommodated.

"What about my (time sensitive booster)?"

Rest assured we will be compensating anyone who purchased a booster and is affected by these interruptions. Full details to follow.

 

"What about my Argon decaying?"

Indeed, this DDOS attack has caused a Void Distortion, decaying has subsided. Argon will not be decaying until server stability returns. Please note this won't fix timers (they will still appear to countdown), but no Argon will be deducted.

 

"What about Dark Sector conflicts?"

All active or pending Dark Sector conflicts/deploys have been extended by 1 day (24 hours) to make up for the lack of playability during this downtime.

 

"What about my Login reward streak?"

Login rewards have been given a 2 day leeway for users who could not login during this time.

 

when will the issues subside?

good news is DE is working on some anti DoS stuff so could be just a little longer until we see a fix.

 

how will the attackers pay?

IF DE manages to track the attacker(s) DoS attacks are punishable by law with jail time and DE could sue for damages done to their server as well as lost revenue from the down time..

 

IE not only could they go to prison but they could get sued into oblivion.

 

 

DE didn't ask for theses issues and people blaming for them on DE are so far off from the true culprit its not even funny. these people are working as hard as when U13 first came out to stop these attacks and help keep the game we all love grinding functioning as best it can.

 

what can we do do help?

 stop hating on De for issues that arnt their fault. the reason why you lost your tranquil cleave isn't because de is incompetent someone wants you to stop playing our game and hate DE. don't let confuse you like a grineer commander confuses our warframes and only regain awareness when it becomes too late.

 

support them in the connectivity issues thread or hamster prime thread.

 

 

that all being said tenno. good luck and good hunting DE... nail these bastards to the floor and don't show them mercy and when its all said and done... double tap them just to be sure.

if you think it's a conspiracy, please, go back to your crop circles, and leave Warframe alone. 

 

the entire universe isn't out to get you. the mayans didn't predict the end of the universe, the solar system does not implode every time the planets line up, eating an ice cream cone on the third sunday of april while walking backwards on top of a car that is driving upside down does not make it rain asteroids.

 

 

and DDoS attacks are nothing new, they happen across the world all the time.
