What do we think about fishing?

Why bother going all the way to the Plains for fishing when there is already a fish in my Orbiter? Might as well start with that guy.

Do you know why people are seing doubles whispering 'hello kiddo'? Because there is a bloody infested fish spreading its infested seaweed all over the ship. I tried burning it but that just *cough* made it *cough* worse *cough*.

And the cysts... oh my god, the cysts. No wonder people are hyped about Umbra... we need a scarf to hide that damn thing!

When the natives lift the Nature Preservation Act and let us in with our Kubrows eager to 'chart' new teritories, I'm dumping that bastard into the Eidolon's lake first thing in the morning.

PoE is most likely going to be great, but let's focus on a specific part of it. What do we think of fishing?

Is this exciting? Is this going to be boring? Are we going to complain that Warframes fishing isn't realistic? (No lol.) Are we going to re-name Warframe to Fishframe? Or are fish, dare I say, end-game?

"To win Warframe you must... Catch fish. It... Uh... Totally saves the Solar System. Yeah. Let's go with that. The fish were the true enemy all along." - Space Mom

Tell me what you guy's think of fishing down below!

We think that a tribute to Ultima online fishing skill at 100% with fish piled up on the shoreline is awesome.

They just need to make sure you can sell them to vendors in the Ostron Marketplace.

Oh, and you will be mining ore like in Ultima online also.  Hopefully "laser cutters" like Convectrix work to give bonuses.

No, we don't. Our extractors only extract mods, because the Orokin decided to bury mods in the ground. So instead of trying to extract things like old Orokin artifacts, we're just extracting mods...

Illogical missions aside, I think fishing is a big distraction. I'm not ok with Warframe having any fishing system because I think it's out of place. There's no real point for us to fish. We have no need of it. We haven't needed it for four years now, and we don't need it now (lore-wise, I mean). And if someone says, "Well, maybe the Ostrons want us to fish for them for something in return", well, the Ostrons themselves should be fishing and hunting in the Plains of Eidolon. That'd help make the Plains feel much more alive and immersive. Beyond that, I think fishing and mining are distractions from substantive combat-related activities in the Plains. This is a game about fighting the Grineer, Corpus, and Infested. So I think the Plains should hold to that core premise of the game, meaning the focus should be on combat against the Grineer and not on other miscellaneous activities. Sure, we can still fight the Eidolons, but they're a McGuffin. They're like the Death Star in Star Wars. Sure, A New Hope is about taking out the Death Star, but the conflict with the Empire is about more than just the Death Star. The same should hold for Plains of Eidolon. Sure, they're the big bad thing we have to watch out for, but during the day and night, we could be focused on fighting the Grineer. I think that should take the form of NPC-driven quests and various dynamic combat-related side missions (like capturing and assassinating Grineer HVTs, raiding Grineer bases for supplies, gathering intel from Grineer forts, attacking Grineer foot and air patrols, raiding Grineer convoys for supplies for the Ostrons, escorting and defending Ostron fishermen and hunters in the Plains on behalf of Steel Meridian and New Loka, hijacking Grineer vehicles like Dargyns and Ogmas for Steel Meridian and New Loka, rescuing Ostrons civilians and Steel Meridian/New Loka operatives from Grineer bases, etc). All of that would be based on existing mechanics that are already in the game.

I am sorry, but I hear that stuff all the time. Why do we love warframe? Because it is a game that dares to differ from the usual.

They just went ahead and integrated a space shooter. Why? Hell if I know, but that is damn impressive and unusual.

The devs play rocket leaugue and the integrate lunaro? Wow, that is pretty sweet. It mainly lacks a pve mode since the pvp community is to small, but cool either way.

I think stuff like that keeps the devs invested in WF and keeps the content flowing. If they would just focus on the same thing forever, as you request, they probably get burned out. And what burned out and unmotivated devs create can be seen all over the industry. Just look at SAP.

Aside from that, if they follow your advice there would be no open world. Because that wasn't in the core.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. I don't think doing something different just for the sake of doing something different is noteworthy or praiseworthy. I don't think making and integrating a space shooter is remarkable if it's done in a mediocre way (and I certainly think Archwing leaves much to be desired, as it lacks features and mechanics that are appealing in space shooters). I don't think integrating a Rocket-League-like game mode in Warframe is sweet or cool or praiseworthy: I think it has no place in the combat-related gameplay of Warframe, and by all accounts, it can and should be considered a failure considering just how few people play Lunaro. While that may keep the devs invested in Warframe, it doesn't do anything to keep the players invested in Warframe, nor does it necessarily keep content flowing (as if the only way to keep content flowing is to add modes/features that have little to do with the core gameplay).

I'm not asking for DE to focus on the same thing forever and ever. I'm asking them to integrate the features that are core to Warframe's gameplay and that naturally work in an open world gameplay space. I don't see how anyone can say they've played open world games before, and then come to the conclusion that what I ask for would mean there would be no open world. I can only conclude that you haven't actually played a shooter/action-focused open world game before.
