I wish pokemans wasn't exculsively on switch. When crosssave crossplay happens, it might become an opportunity to retire my jet engine of a PS4. I always loved having pokemon follow me around, Game Freak has had their hooks in me ever since OG pokemon yellow.

However I would like if pokemon got into darker themes.

Ever heard of Palworld? It's coming out this year, you might find the trailers (or the steam page ESPECIALLY THE STEAM PAGE) to be interesting...

It only includes pokemon slave labor, death, poaching, the ability to overwork them (even to death), famines, the ability to eat your own pokemon, GUNS, the fact you are fighting other people who are using guns with your pokemon (who you can use as cover), boss fights, the fact your "pals" can use guns with you, destructible environments, pokemon food chain, and last but not least, genetic experimentation to make pal offspring a fusion of pals.

Did I mention you have to eat them if you have no crops in the aforementioned famines?

If they had fixed the atrocious texture tiling problem, and added friendly pokemon AI, it would probably be hailed as one of the best Switch games ever and the best Pokemon ever. The feeling of getting out there in the wilderness and ambushing pokemon, the free-flowing movement with the ridable pokemon, the revamped battle system, the new take on boss fights, all of that was just *chef's kiss* great. They also squared the circle between "pokemon are your best friends" and "pokemon are interchangeable data files" by incentivizing you to just catch so many of them, and the ones you release give you gifts to power up the ones you keep. The character customization is a step in the right direction too: I rolled "black guy", and the fashion NPCs were all too happy to style him up with braidlocs and a Russian ushanka hat for his trip through 1860's Japan

The only problem is the unmistakable air of GameFreak apathy. "We need this game out by January for tax reasons" said the higher-ups, leaving no time for buffing up the presentation. So we get graphics that look acceptable from one angle but turn into absolute garbage from another angle. You compare it to games where they really put the legwork in (Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade, SMT V) and the difference is night and day

And while being able to pop your pokemon out at any time is neat -- you can all sit down around the campfire together, or film a domestic conflict dramcom movie with the entire family of six -- I wish they had gone a step further. Wish they could have followed me around into the field, stalk through the tall grass at my side, or have them out pre-emptively when engaging hostile pokemon
