Updating outdated textures

Recommended Posts

Some of the textures on older warframes and weapons are really outdated compared to most of the rest of the game. Some prime (pun intended) examples are Frost's backpack thingamabob and the entirety of Hate:

Another part of textures that is quit often of inconsistent resolution compared to most of the frame is any sort of lines. For example: the lines on Umbra's chest/scarf have always bothered me, and on the shoulderblades of Titania Prime the lines transition from decently sharp into pixely when following the line upwards, though this is somewhat less obvious.

Small issues to some, but I notice them and once noticed they bother me more than I care to admit. I'm hoping that DE will revisit some of these textures at some point to bring them back into line with the general level of quality. Maybe the Stalker weapons can get a touch up what with the new update coming out :)

I'd like to see an improvement to a lot of the textures as well. Umbra's textures have bothered me too. The Latron Prime's textures bother me a lot. It only really looks good with white as the primary color. Otherwise, you get white seams. Some weapons still need to undergo the PBR treatment. Even some items like the Galvanik armor set that don't have glaring quality issues need a rework of the diffuse texture as its too light and colors are not presented accurately on it. I'd also like to see this apply to Tennogen skins as well. And while they're at it, they could do a Braton-style rework of some older weapons like the Grakata and Dera.

The issue with these textures are more their resolution and/or compression on the tint mask file than being old really. You could easily get a new warframe with similar results, and some of these became like this due the post Nezha Prime release Oodle mega compression pass, as it was massive and probably had a few textures less curated than they should be.

Something else would be the old materials or actually old textures, which still use Blinn Phong (ie: Stalker Weapons).

Having said all this I'm all for it, I'm very sad everytime I see some of these very obvious things, especially compared to some newer stuff :(

Fair enough, Excal is one of the earliest frames and its textures are pristine after all. Whatever the cause is I'd like to see them fixed :p

Yeah, I find a lot of fashionframing involves finding out what colors make the texture issues stand out least and then working around that (the lines on the kuva hind for instance are very grainy, but you can cover that up by making them the same color as the background they are on, same with Umbra), or getting a skin to bypass the issue, though like you said, some skins are in need of an update as well. These 'solutions' are a band-aid at best :/
