So it looks like we have yet another "works as host, broken as client" issue to throw on top of the mountain. Another recent one is Spira Prime only spinning if you're host. Sometimes they'll all combine neatly and everything is right in the world, but most of the time I'll have a bunch of random orbs all over the place with one main vortex. Then, sometimes, I'll have runs where almost none of them will combine and there will be orbs everywhere until they start popping.
