Soma > Boltor, because I said so.

But seriously, even though I rarely admit it, the Boltor performs just as well if you can land your shots.

Boltor hits harder per shot and works better with the Shred and Heavy Caliber mods. With Soma you want to go for a Crit build, so Point Strike and Vital Sense. Heavy Caliber isn't so good for it because you want to maintain its accuracy for headshots.

My Boltor P build: http://warframe-builder.com/Primary_Weapons/Builder/Boltor_prime/t_30_22042230_131-3-0-132-4-5-133-7-5-134-5-5-137-0-10-138-2-5-141-6-5-150-1-10_137-7-150-8-138-11-131-3-132-8-134-6-141-6-133-11/en/2-0-44

My hypothetical Soma P build: http://warframe-builder.com/Primary_Weapons/Builder/Soma_prime/t_30_22342200_131-3-5-132-4-5-133-7-5-137-0-10-138-2-5-140-1-5-141-6-5-159-5-5_137-7-140-5-138-6-131-6-132-8-159-5-141-11-133-11/en/2-0-65/

Only thing I don't know about Soma is if it's better with 90% elemental mods, or 60% elemental status mods.

Both.

They mod and perform differently--within the confines of being autotrigger primaries.

One is hitscan and benefits from crit builds. One is a projectile weapon and is all about base damage, elementals, and RoF. Mod accordingly.

Where to use them is more subjective. Personally, I like the SomaP when skirmishing. I like the BoltorP for defending fixed positions.

Then some days you just feel like using a certain gun and the heck with being practical.

All your choice.

28k DPS isn't anything to sneeze at. Boltor P can put out some really scary numbers when it's modded properly, especially if you bring the right elemental combo for the mission. Heavy Caliber will drop its accuracy a bit though, which is actually a good thing because it turns it into more of a spray weapon and you don't have to be quite as precise. The increased spread from lower accuracy can actually help you hit stuff.

But I would bring a high-accuracy secondary to compliment the weapon when you need to snipe stuff. Lex Prime is an excellent choice to go with Boltor Prime.

That's my build for it.

Soma Prime is a good candidate for the  Acolyte mods Argon Scope and Bladed Rounds, swap out 2 elementals if you want red crits.

Never swap out elementals. Its almost never worth it

I like red crits :) You can always counter the loss with a Primed Bane mod if you're that concerned. Argon Scope is a great mod, red crits on Soma Prime does a good amount of damage.
