Instead Of Removing Raid... Improve It!

I've seen the argument that Raid is no different from Capture. I have to agree with that. Instead of removing Raid entirely, it should be upgraded into a master thief action flick instead. I have three changes in mind:

1. The Raid Target Room

An Orokin artifact in a sealed chamber. Thus far, all the Tenno needs to do is to press a button on a nearby interface to open it.

Change:

Place multiple ciphers on the raid target. Difference from lock down ciphers is that this type doesn't have a time limit. However, it's more complex, solve it before the enemy kills you. Mission level should determine the cipher type; Mercury should have basic ciphers, Pluto should have nightmareish ciphers.

Being in a squad will make this easier; as one guy can defend the rest of the squad while they're solving the ciphers.

2. Rooms before the Raid Target

There is no dedicated security en route to the artifact storage room. Tenno can waltz in there!

Change:

Automated turrets. Laser trip wires that immediately alert the whole ship. Tenno can either sneak very carefully or just bumrush to the artifact. Whatever floats that particular Tenno's boat.

3. The Artifact

The artifact is a floating transparent cube with pretty patterns on it. Touching it apparently absorbs it onto our suits. What does it do? What is its purpose? The Lotus did detect some kind of high energy reading from it...

Change:

The player picking up the artifact will either be buffed or debuffed. Once again, depending on level. Low level raid targets will be similar to the current raids now, get the target, get out. High level raid targets might... Decrease your shields, make you slower, make your weapons stronger, etc.

While we're at it may I suggest more ways to buff raid?

1. Raid artifact grants random nightmare mode conditions. Shields and lights fail, or low gravity occurs.

2. Toxic gas, ice, fire, or a self-destruct mechanism activates in the ship.

3. The artifact grants a berzerker buff to the player, 50% extra damage output and 50% more taken from enemies,

Raid artifacts should not just be limited to buffs/debuffs to a player, it should be able to immediately affect levels; creating exciting gameplay along the way to the extraction point.

---

So... Buff raid! Don't kill it entirely.

Nope, DE doesn't fix. Look at all the other, bigger issues Warframe has.

DE hides behind pink shorts and new melee weapons. U9 was supposed to be about fixing and balancing, yet 80% of the weapons are still pointless at higher levels and the difficulty is more broken than ever.

Survival does sound pretty fun though.

Wait if they are taking out raid does that mean void raids too?? Will those just stop being keys and replaced with survival?

Those keys will become survival keys.

I don't think we can save it. At the very best, we may get it back eventually. He looked pretty determined about  replacing it with survival though.

Hopefully it can be saved somehow. I was getting the impression that they're straight out removing it based on numbers alone, instead of thinking about reworking it such that it's different from capture missions.

Personally, Raid was my favorite after Defense. Easy to solo, no stupid NPC ally to worry about, no backtracking for multiple datamass objects.

Raid should take a cue from Defense: rush an item or location, and attempt to destroy it while waves of enemies come at you.

I find it hard to believe that raid could be one of the least-played mission types. It's my third-favorite mission type, after extermination and defense. I only do datamass missions if there's an alert I need on them, and I consider even skipping alerts for good stuff if it's a rescue mission. I can't believe anybody in their right mind would voluntarily do rescue missions, unless it's to laugh at the hostage's attempts to navigate. Sabotages are kinda meh. Either a lot of running back and forth across the map, or a timed exit that prevents exploration. If any mission type is to be replaced with an escort mission, it should be another escort mission.

I'd like the Raid mission to stay. But instead of it being a simple run'n'gun+snatch'n'grab; I kinda like the suggestions made by the OP.

DE, watch movies like 'Mission Impossible' and I'm sure you get the idea. ;)

Honestly, the game is turning into defense frame at this point.

Void keys only drop at good rates on defense missions and no others.

If that happens, DE will have to make sure to scale the Raid Artifact effects based on planet levels. New players playing raid should have a basic snatch and grab, while veteran players will have all the stuff happening as the artifact travels through the level.

Though I can imagine the raid artifact turning out to be an Orokin beacon that attracts the infested to the level...

I hope rewards will scale with the effects presented by the artifact :P

how about a small obstacle course with lasers and traps? if you fail either the mission fails or the lotus says "you failed to get the artifact. come to extraction anyway." with a penalty like destro6677 suggests (poison filled rooms, a crack in your warframe to take more damage)

since the game can spawn lots of enemies during mobile defense, why not have it do the same thing while hacking the consoles during raid as well?

That would unfortunately just be annoying because your back is turned to the enemy. It would be impossible to solo unless you bought a cipher, and that slot can be used for much better things.

Haha I like the idea of the player being buffed or debuffed when taking the artifact. I think DE should debuff the player so that they cant run, or soemthing along the lines where they cant just rush out as fast as they rushed in. or add parkour areas so that the loki and ashe can have more fun rather than just zig zagging through the enemies. We're ninjas! Not racecars!
